January Happenings at Fairfax Academy

From Your Academy Admin

Fairfax Academy Community,

What a wonderful start to 2024! We have kicked off the season visiting a lot of our schools with our incredible student Ambassadors to recruit for next year and are seeing students getting jazzed for the performances that we host during the second half of the year. For all returning students, please remember to connect with your counselor about signing up for next year. Spaces are limited, including for our upper level classes, and we want to make sure you can continue with us. If you or a friend are interested in exploring classes here, consider joining us on February 6 for our annual Open House and for a student visit during the month of February.

We are excited to hear the halls alive with the sound and sights of the Academy’s Musical Theatre & Actor’s Studio annual winter production, Cry Baby. Please visit https://mtasacademy.weebly.com/cry-baby-the-musical.html to purchase tickets beginning on January 19. We look forward to having you join us!

A brief reminder that there will be no MD or PM Academy classes for feeder school students on Thursday, January 25 due to the early release for the end of the quarter. If you have any questions, please reach out to us!

Stay warm!

Mrs. Cook

Cry-Baby: The Musical

Cry Baby the Musical

February 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 | 7:00 p.m.
February 4, 10 | 2:00 p.m.

Tickets: https://mtasacademy.weebly.com/cry-baby-the-musical.html

Based on the cult classic, 1990 John Waters film, this jumping, jiving Tony nominee is a rebellious teen comedy event!

It's 1954. Everyone likes Ike, nobody likes communism and Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker is the coolest boy in Baltimore. He's a bad boy with a good cause – truth, justice and the pursuit of rock and roll. Cry-Baby and the square rich girl, Allison, are star-crossed lovers at the center of this world. Fueled by hormones and the new rhythms of rock and roll, she turns her back on her squeaky clean boyfriend, Baldwin, to become a "drape" (a Baltimore juvenile delinquent) and Cry-Baby's moll. At the other end of the topsy-turvy moral meritocracy of 1954 America, Baldwin is the king of the squares and leads his close-harmony pals against the juvenile delinquents, who are ultimately arrested for arson, sending the drapes all off to prison. It's Romeo and Juliet meets High School Hellcats.

Service & Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Fairfax’s Give Together initiative will be a family-friendly volunteer opportunity on January 15, 2024. There are many great ways to have students and families volunteering during the MLK Jr. Holiday weekend where we remember Dr. King’s life and vision of a “Beloved Community.”

One additional volunteer opportunity to highlight for this upcoming weekend is Food For Neighbors is having another bag pick-up and sorting event this weekend. Food For Neighbors is an FCPS Ignite Partner and has many family-friendly volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
