Principal's Message

Greetings Tiger Families!

This coming Monday, January 15th, is a student and staff holiday to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. King’s legacy of nonviolent, yet persistent, activism against racial discrimination during the Civil Rights Movement sets an inspirational example for all of us about how to overcome adversity, establish and stay firm in our beliefs, and to make our voice heard in a way that does not promote violence and serves the needs of others.

Volunteer Fairfax has organized a “Give Together” event where families with children ages 5-12 can register and participate in service learning activities including a food drive, assembly care kits, and making blankets for veterans, among other things. This event is free, but does require registration.

“Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others? – Martin Luther King, Jr., 1957

In the spirit of Dr. King, please have a peaceful and purposeful weekend.

Sincerely,

Matt

PTA Updates

PTA Meeting and Parent Strategy Session

Join us on January 17th at 7:00 PM for our PTA Meeting.  Following our brief PTA business, we’ll hear from Mr. Fitzgerald, who will share some relevant student service/scheduling information-especially those relevant to rising 8th grade parents.  Following his remarks, we’ll have our first Parent Strategy Session.  We are pleased to welcome Doug Danosos, a financial advisor (and Twain parent!). Doug will be sharing comprehensive strategies to assist parents as they prepare to pay for college.  Doug provided this well-received presentation to AVID parents earlier this year, and we wanted to make it available to the entire Twain Community.  Zoom link will be provided for those choosing to join virtually.

Safe Students, Safe Schools

Fairfax County Public Schools believes that academic success is built on the foundation of a safe learning environment. This includes physical safety, and mental health and wellness.

FCPS has a comprehensive approach to safety that involves physical security measures, online monitoring by security staff, and crisis intervention support. The division has created the Safe Students, Safe Schools Brochure (PDF) to enhance your awareness of potential hazards and to equip you with practical tips for how you can help. Visit the FCPS website for more information.
