It's triplets! Mrs. Keener and two of her students matched outfits today.

Lucky Day

They say good luck comes in threes so it was a lucky day at Willow Springs!

Our amazing FLES teacher, Sra. Keener, and two of her 4th grade students were surprised and happy to find they were triplets today.

Dear Willow Springs Families,

It was another great week of learning at Willow Springs! Our students and teachers are working hard as we approach the end of the 2nd quarter and the midway point in the year.

This week, our strings program was shining bright during an outstanding 5th and 6th grade Winter Concert. It is such and inspiration to see the tremendous commitment and talent in our community of learners. We look forward to seeing our 4th grade strings students perform at their their concert next Thursday the 18th.

With the end of Quarter 2 coming up, this is a great time to check in with your child about what's working well and what some new areas for growth might be both socially and academically. Students can always use reminders about using kind words and demonstrating kind behavior.

If your child needs academic support, all FCPS students have access to a FREE resource, Tutor.com. Students can get expert help in a safesecure virtual learning space—anytime, anywhere, on any device. Tutors can help with reading, math, and more! You can connect by text-chat or voice and work together with your tutor in our online classroom.

We wish all of you a safe and rejuvenating 3 day weekend. Thank you for sending us your best every day! #Willow Pride

Wonderful Winter Strings Concert

Last night our 5th and 6th grade strings students performed in WSES' annual Winter Strings Concert and their talent shined bright! It was a lovely performance and a packed house. We are so impressed with the progress of the students under the direction of strings teachers Consuelo Sevilla and Katherine Venne. Congratulations to all of our student musicians and their super supportive parents!

Students in 5th grade AAP completed innovative recycling projects.

Spotlight on Learning

Ms. Williams' 5th grade AAP students have taken part in the 2023-24 Youth Recycling Contest with great enthusiasm. This year's competition, titled "Design for Recycling®," urged contestants to improve an existing consumer product using Design for Recycling® principles. To demonstrate their enhanced product and its design improvements, the students created a two-minute video. The goal of the contest was to maximize recyclability, minimize costs, eliminate hazardous materials, and decrease time and environmental impact in the recycling process.

The students were responsible for filming and editing their videos in the green room. The winning group will earn the opportunity to attend the ISRI annual conference in Las Vegas.

Last year, a group from Ms. Williams' class won and received the video award in Nashville. We have our fingers crossed that our school will be victorious once again. The students put in a lot of effort to redesign products to help create a more sustainable world, which is truly commendable.

Cafeteria Reminders

Lunchtime is often one of students' favorite times of day. It provides a break from the rigors of learning and gives students the opportunity to see friends and socialize.

Lunchtime is also a less structured time when each class is not under the direct supervision of a teacher. It is important that each student understand the rules and expectations in the cafeteria. Here are some helpful reminders to talk with your child about:

  • Go to the bathroom BEFORE lunch.
  • Don't share food or touch other people's food.
  • Stay in your seat and raise your hand if you need something.
  • Use kind words that are appropriate for school.

Parents, please remember that food should not be packed in glass containers as they can break and create an unsafe situation.
