Thank you to all our families for their flexibility and patience with today's two hour delay. Wintery weather has certainly impacted our week.
If you and your family are looking for an opportunity to get some exercise, we have Family Fitness after school tomorrow! Looking ahead to next week, we are excited for our strings concert and PTA Bingo Night!

Family Fitness will be meeting on Thursday, January 18, from 3:45-4:45 pm. We have fun activities planned for you and your crew!

Math Night
Math Night will be Thursday, February 1st from 5:00-6:30 pm. This event is being held to share what math instruction looks like here at Union Mill and have families engage in these math activities together. Two Smooth Dudes and Frothy Mug food trucks will be here with delicious food and refreshing drinks for purchase. We look forward to seeing you!

Preparing for Winter Weather
Winter weather is here! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place where we will post an emergency weather closing. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and plan for childcare if appropriate.
Community Flier Distribution
This semester’s non-profit Community Flier Distribution will take place on Friday, February 16th. To submit a flier for approval, it must be received in the office by Friday, February 2nd and include the following disclaimer – “This event [or activity] is sponsored by [name of the organization] and is operated independently of the Fairfax County School Board, the Superintendent, and Union Mill Elementary School.”
Once the flier is approved, please deliver 36 sets of 30 copies each (plus a few extras for front office staff) by no later than NOON on Wednesday, February 14th. Fliers will go home with students on Friday, February 16th.
SCA Snowman Spirit Day
The Union Mill SCA will be hosting Snowman Spirit day on Thursday, January 25th. Feel free to dress in white and add snowman accessories like a scarf!

UMES SCA Sponsored FISHER HOUSE Drive
For thirty years, Fisher House has provided a home away from home for military families who have a patient receiving medical care. This means if a military family has a family member who needs surgery or other medical care, they can stay at a Fisher House near the hospital for free. In order to help the family concentrate on their loved one, the house is fully stocked for them. The SCA will be collecting items until January 19th. There are collection boxes on the stage in the lobby and SCA members will be collecting from classrooms too. Please consider donating something from the list to help our military families. Thank you!
