Kindergarten students engaging in play based choice time

Free choice time! Little imaginations blossom as hands dive into buckets of shimmering beads, sculpt worlds of colorful play dough, and snip and shape stories from papery rainbows. A magical time for exploration and learning, one bead bracelet, clay creation, or paper masterpiece at a time. ✂️✨

Two thumbs up for free choice fun! From doughy delights to puzzling adventures, every corner holds a new story waiting to be told.

Watch out, Little Run! The next generation of artists is here, shaping their dreams into reality, one clay mask at a time. Every squish, pinch, and smooth tells a story, waiting to be unveiled. Be amazed by the creativity these tiny hands unleash!

Special book talk author talks to 3rd graders in the library

Imagine a library buzzing with questions and full of smiles! That's exactly what happened when author Sylvia Lopez, aunt of our beloved ESOL teacher, Ms. Heninger, visited our third graders for a Handimals book talk. Ms. Lopez, a retired school librarian and now children's book writer, captivated students with her stories and brought the animal kingdom to life!

The Little Run Way in the Cafeteria

The Little Run Way in the Cafeteria (Behavior Expectation Poster)

Are you looking for a topic to engage in at the dinner table this weekend? Or on the drive to your next destination? Ask your child about The Little Run Way in the CAFETERIA!

Consider asking your child(ren) one or more of the following questions:

  • How did you and your friends show respect in the cafeteria this week?
  • What does it look and sound like to be respectful in the cafeteria?
  • When was a time you felt ready in the cafeteria this week? How did that feel?

Classroom Monitor and Dining Room Hostess Updates

Children on the playground

It is bittersweet to share that Ms. Grace Bomar will no longer serve as a classroom monitor at Little Run. Ms. Bomar plans to continue her educational journey full-time and will remain in the substitute system to support Little Run when possible. Thank you to Ms. Bomar for her kindness and support.

We are excited to share that our current dining room hostess, Ms. Van Luong, will shift into the role of classroom monitor. Ms. V knows our students well and is excited to serve in a new capacity. Please congratulate and welcome Ms. V to her new position when you see her!

We currently have a dining room hostess position open at this time. We are looking for someone friendly, energetic, and assertive in maintaining expectations of cafeteria behavior and who loves working with children. Click HERE to learn more about the position and apply online. Please contact Lesley Hassen if you or anyone else is interested.

The Positivity Project at Little Run

Positivity Project Logo

This week, our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Perseverance. Perseverance means you complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up.

The concept of perseverance can most often be found in one’s active pursuit of overcoming obstacles. Perseverance is a uniquely human characteristic that identifies an individual’s ability to spend long periods of time devoted to a single goal or set of goals. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance can handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals.

Those who persevere through setbacks often reap the benefits of the success gained by refusing to give up. Sometimes, this comes with the added benefit of increased knowledge and skill as a result of the work needed to achieve. A single group member’s ability or willingness to persevere can substantially impact those working with them and the team. Groups that show high levels of perseverance can achieve goals they may not have believed possible.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perseverance with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Attendance Matters

This is the time of year when winter weather and children’s illnesses can take a toll on school attendance. But it’s important to get your children to school every day possible.

Do what you can to keep your children healthy. Dress them warmly for the cold weather. Encourage them to wash their hands regularly and send them to school with hand sanitizer.

Little Run Student Ambassador Program

We are delighted to offer your child an opportunity to participate in FCPS Student Ambassador Program here at Little Run!

What is the Student Ambassador Program?

The mission of the Student Ambassador Program is to help all students feel connected and included at school. The program aims to foster friendships between students and their peers.

Student Ambassador Programs:

Are student-led programs that provide ambassadors with an opportunity to lead their school in creating a welcoming and caring school community.

Over the next few weeks, our staff may recommend your child to become a Student Ambassador.  If so, you will receive a permission form.  Please complete and return to your child's teacher or you may email the form to Tiffany Sutton, School Counselor at tsutton@fcps.edu

Spring SEL Screener

We are excited to have your child take part in the Spring SEL Screener beginning February 28 - March 15. This survey "measures student mindsets, behaviors, and attitudes that might be related to success in school and beyond the classroom. It is designed to help educators understand the social-emotional competencies of their students and how they are supported in classrooms and schools."

Here are sample SEL Survey Questions for your review.

If you would like your child to be opted-out of the screener, here is a copy of the SEL Screener Notification and Opt-Out Form. Click the link below to access translated versions. You may return the signed opt-out form to the main office or email the form to tsutton@fcps.edu
