LCES Updates 1/12/24 This Week's Updates

Tinker Day

Tinker Day

On Wednesday, the students enjoyed a Tinker Day, which they earned by consistently exhibiting positive behaviors in class. It is a day of free-building with various STEAM toys and materials. Some of the students built a city with Keva planks and then simulated an earthquake by shaking the table. Others built impressive towers with Crazy Forts, complicated roller coasters with marble runs, and unique buildings and vehicles with Legos. The next Tinker Day that the students work towards will include coding activities and technology.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday

As a reminder, schools and offices will be closed on Monday, January 15, for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Learn more about Martin Luther King Jr. See the complete school year calendar.

Volunteer with Give Together

FCPS students continue to find incredible ways to serve their community while building Portrait of a Graduate skills such as becoming an ethical and global citizen. The school division is excited to collaborate with Volunteer Fairfax for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Students and families can volunteer on Monday, January 15, at Volunteer Fairfax’s Give Together event. It is designed to engage families with children (ages 5-12) in service learning.  Projects will include a food drive, assembling caring kits for community members who need support, making no-tie fleece blankets for veterans, environmental stewardship, and support for animal welfare.

Keeping Our School Community Healthy

We’ve noticed a recent rise in cases of RSV, the flu, COVID, and other viruses among students and staff. To encourage a healthy learning environment for everyone, we kindly ask that you please monitor your child's health daily for any signs of illness such as fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, or fatigue. If they are experiencing any of these symptoms, please keep them home from school and consult a healthcare professional. As a staff, we are also mindful of these same criteria for work attendance. In addition, we will continue to practice rigorous cleaning and disinfecting protocols throughout the school. Visit FCPS' Health and Safety Guidance webpage for more tips.
