Welcome Back!

Gingerbread

Pictured above are the Kindergarten students participating in the annual gingerbread house making project.

The smiles on the childrens' faces upon their return to school Tuesday morning was so much fun to see! We hope everyone had a restful and fun winter break. Perhaps it was filled with travel or lounging around at home, either way, it was a good time to connect as a family and spend time together.

For me, the drive to and from Arkansas provided me quite a bit of time to think. I am not one to make New Year's Resolutions because I believe change can take place at any time and yet, I do look at a new year as a time to reflect on where I am and where I want to go in both my professional and personal life. I have also just crossed the one year mark of being the Rose Hill Elementary School Principal. The first year was filled with challenges and successes. It's been quite the learning curve even though I was the Assistant Principal for several years. I said in the interview process that I had opportunities to apply to other principalships in the county and I didn't because I wanted to stay at Rose Hill and that decision is one that I don't regret. The staff and faculty at Rose Hill are truly amazing. They are folks who are the epitome of what being relentless looks like while in pursuit of ensuring students are learning and feeling cared for. I am also grateful for the Rose Hill community. The parents and community members have been graceful and supportive as I learn this new role and I appreciate the feedback and the opportunity to work alongside you. With all of this being said, I am looking forward to continuing the work and having fun doing it. I can give or take the endless "tasks" that come with being a school principal but it's the children and teachers that give me the absolute joy of coming to work every day. For that, I am incredibly grateful.

Wishing you and your family a very happy new year! Let's do this!

Ms. Edwards, School Principal

A Note about Those New Personal Electronic Devices

Whether is was a new smartwatch, cell phone, or other personal electronic device, the Rose Hill team definitely noticed that many students returned from winter break with new gadgets. When needed, we took some time this week to remind students of the rules around the use of personal electronic devices, this was especially needed in our primary grade classrooms. Some of the big reminders are:

  • Phones must be off and in backpacks during the school day. This is specific to the elementary schools. Middle and high school are different.
  • For personal electronic devices, such as smartwatches,
    • Students cannot talk on the device or text during school hours.
    • Students cannot take photographs or video of others without consent during school hours and it needs to be academically related.
    • Students may not access social media during school hours.
    • Students may not record or play videos during school hours.
    • Alarms need to be silenced.

More detailed information can be found in the SR&R, page 42.
