A Note from Principal Briggs

Rise_Against_Hunger

Dear Spring Hill Families,

Happy New Year!

We will be starting our annual Rise Against Hunger Service Learning project on Monday, January 8 and will be collecting donations in school and online through January 31. All students are encouraged to earn some extra money at home through doing chores, saving, or set aside a portion of any allowance to donate to our Rise Against Hunger initiative. Our school goal is to collect $4,000, which is approximately $5 per child, however we welcome any donation amount. Regardless of how much your child donates, we encourage all children to donate some amount of money towards helping us reach our goal to support an organization with a goal to end world hunger.

As a Langley pyramid, the goal is to raise $35,000, to purchase 75,000 meals which will be given to families in need around the world. If it is $.50, $2.00, or $20.00, we want our students to know that they are never too young to make a difference, and we appreciate your support in sending this message as well.

We will be tracking the percentage of participation. We hope 100% of our students will participate by donating any amount of money they can.Every $.46 purchases a meal which feeds 5-6 people.

Families may also donate online. NOTE: If you donate online, please have your child inform us of that in the front office so we can count their participation! More information about the actual event will be sent out next week!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

FCPS School Year Calendar for 2023-24

snow

KEEP IN MIND! (fingers crossed?) SNOW DAYS: For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather. During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels): Elementary school instruction: Red Apple 21. Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.

Parent University: A KID WHO CAN

Raising kids isn’t a walk in the park. Every age comes with its own challenges that parents have to face and work through to help their child in the best way they can. Experts in the field are calling Raising A Kid Who Can: Simple Strategies to Build a Lifetime of Adaptability and Emotional Strength the "parenting playbook" that we all should have on hand to help us raise adaptable, resilient kids. It is written by a child psychiatrist, a parent psychologist, and a child therapist who have spent years distilling the latest parenting science and best practices to answer complex questions such as: Based on all that modern science has to offer, what are the most important things I should try to do in raising my kid? How do we ensure that the next generation can roll with the inevitable punches of daily life?

Join us at our next Parent University on January 12th at 9am, for a presentation and Q&A with co-author of Raising a Kid Who Can and former Spring Hill parent Dr. Heather Tedesco.
