Dogwood Emblem

Dear Dogwood Dragons,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a fun yet restful winter break. We were excited to see the students return.

Snow is coming!!!! (I am squealing with delight!) Winter weather is already here and if you are finding a need for a winter coat, please reach out to our family liaisons, your child’s teacher, or even the front office and we will help you. You want to ensure your child is dressed for the weather as we will have recess outside unless temperatures are below freezing.

When snow falls, keep a close eye on the news and fcps.edu to look for school closings and delays.

Please keep our family liaisons emails close in hand:

Susie Livingood- salivingood@fcps.edu

Andy Sigle- awsigle@fcps.edu

Carmen Fonseca Londono- cgfonsecalon@fcps.edu

Or you can just call the front office: 703-262-3100

Take care and stay warm,

Kate Beckner, Proud principal of Dogwood

Headphones

Headphones play a crucial role in enhancing your child's learning experience, particularly during computer- based activities and testing. If you child does not have a set of headphones at school. please send one in as soon as possible.

These essential tools contribute to a focused and productive learning environment, allowing each student to engage seamlessly with various educational resources. If, for any reason, acquiring a set of headphones poses a challenge, we encourage to reach out to your child's classroom teacher for support. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to this important resource.

❄️ Preparing for Winter Weather

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and plan for childcare if needed.

Staying Healthy

🧼 Staying Healthy This Cold/Flu Season

Cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses often rise this time of year. It is important for students to wash their hands regularly and cover their coughs and sneezes. Please monitor your child’s health daily and follow recommendations for when to keep them home due to illness. Visit FCPS' Health and Safety Guidance webpage for more tips.
