happy new year

Dear Stone Families,

Happy New Year! I hope each of you had a rejuvenating and joyful winter break spent with loved ones. As we bid farewell to 2023 and welcome the promising year ahead, we are excited to welcome back our students and staff tomorrow, January 2 for ODD day classes

As we dive back into our school routines, I understand that transitioning from the comfort of the holidays to our academic setting can be quite challenging for both students, staff and parents alike.

Returning to the structure and routine of school after a break, especially one as delightful as the winter vacation, can be a bit demanding. However, it's crucial that we re-establish our momentum and dive back into our learning journey.

As we resume our academic pursuits, I encourage our students to embrace this opportunity for a fresh start. Reconnecting with friends, engaging in classroom discussions, and diving into our curriculum with renewed enthusiasm are essential elements of our return.

Additionally, I would like to highlight the importance of staying ahead of our schoolwork, especially considering the potential for winter weather and snow days in the upcoming months. It's prudent for students to stay proactive and on top of their assignments, ensuring that they are well-prepared in case of any disruptions due to inclement weather.

We understand that navigating through potential snow days can pose challenges, but maintaining a proactive approach to learning will help alleviate any academic pressures that may arise due to unexpected closures.

As partners in your child's education, your support in establishing a routine conducive to learning at home is invaluable. Encouraging a consistent study schedule and creating a conducive learning environment can greatly aid in maintaining academic progress throughout the winter months.

Moreover, our faculty and staff are committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment for our students as we continue our educational journey together.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding. Here's to a successful continuation of our academic year ahead. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Let's make this return to school after the break a smooth and successful transition for all.

Let’s have a great week Panthers,

Sonya Williams

🍎After School Program

The After School Program resumes as normal on Tuesday, January 2. However, there will be NO TEACHER TUESDAY on January 2. Please see the After School Program website for club offerings.

⛄Snow Days This Winter

For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.

During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):

Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.

🥳Winter Party

The After School Program will be hosting a winter party on January 18th, 2:30pm to 4:30pm in the Cafeteria.

The fee will be $5 per student payable via MYSCHOOLBUCKS only.

No one will be admitted to the party on the day of the event if they have not prepaid.

Appropriate behavior is expected and SR&R is applicable to this event.

🧠Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Now Available

One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is the SEL Screener.

Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of October, providing information on their skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions.

The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create the learning, experiences, and environments students need to be successful.

The week of December 11th, individual student SEL Screener results became available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

For more information about the screener please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s school.

🔔Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

The weeks surrounding winter break often see more empty seats in classrooms. This year, let's nurture a rock-solid attendance habit. Every hour of every school day is a unique opportunity for students to learn, connect, and grow.

A big thank you to:

  • 🌟 Students who show up every day and the parents/caregivers supporting them.
  • 👩‍🏫 Teachers who create a welcoming environment for learning.
  • 👨‍💼 Administrators who provide a safe and engaging place to grow.
  • 👏 Bus drivers, support staff, and volunteers who help our learners.

If you or your child need support, please reach out to a school counselor, social worker, or family liaison. If your child is not feeling well, please refer to our When Should I Keep My Child Home? resource for guidance.

Visit our website for more attendance resources.
