Atoms Weekly Recap

A recap from the week in winter sports:

Girls Basketball hosted the first annual Raegan Sharnae Way Atoms Holiday Tournament December 27 and 28. The tournament welcomed four teams to Annandale and hope to grow it to eight next year. Day 1 of the tournament saw Yorktown defeat Gar-Field in game 1, while the Atoms took the court for game two vs Osbourn. The Atoms and Eagles went back and forth the first half with the Atoms holding a narrow lead at halftime. The second half was a different story as the team came out with a defensive mindset holding the Eagles to 10 second half points and pulling away for a double digit victory. Day 2 saw the Atoms take on Yorktown. The Atoms played hard and showed a lot of grit against a Yorktown team that was on fire. The Atoms ultimately fell to the Patriots but the team played well and are prepared to hit the second half of the season running! To learn more about The Raegan Sharnae Way Foundation, click here

Boys Basketball traveled to Myrtle Beach for their holiday tournament before Christmas. The Atoms played some stiff competition throughout the tournament but showed a lot of promise as they prepare for the second half of the season. The first game saw the Atoms take on a powerhouse team with a South Carolina commit. The Atoms played well, holding a tie game at 42 with three minutes to go but foul trouble caused issues for the Atoms ultimately falling short in the first round. Game 2 saw an ugly game with multiple turnovers for the Atoms and a loss to go with it. Game 3 was a different story as the Atoms controlled the game from the tip and ran away with the victory before heading home. The Atoms return to the court Wednesday vs Justice.

Swim/Dive jumps back into the pool this Friday vs Edison at Audrey Moore.

Wrestling traveled to Woodbridge yesterday and today for their winter break match. The Atoms wrestled well on day 1 with a couple wrestlers moving to day 2 today. The Atoms return to district play Wednesday as they travel to Falls Church.

Indoor Track picks back up with their next meet on January 12.

Gymnastics returns to the floor on January 10 at Robinson.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Special Ask... Atoms After School Snack Bar

As many of you know, the Atoms Athletic Boosters has been able to open our concessions stand after school for your children to grab a bite to eat prior to heading to their activities. If your schedule allows, please consider volunteering 1 day a week or even just 1-2 days a month. The hours are 3:15-4:15. This is a rare benefit in Fairfax County that we are able to provide for our kids, but we can’t do it without parent help. Please contact at odessapmurray@gmail.com or (703) 626-9647 if interested in helping.

Partners for Safe Teen Driving

Included in Grade 10 Health & PE is one quarter, or 30-36 hours, of in-classroom driver education. To get your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent/guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent/guardian, arrive ON TIME as the door is locked at 6:30pm, and you must remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified. Choose a date convenient for you and your parent/guardian. You may attend a session outside of your Driver Education quarter.
