Fairfax Academy Community,
Welcome to 2024! We hope everyone had a peaceful break and had time to enjoy the time away from school. We have a few reminders in this week’s News You Choose as we look to reset in the new year. We also wanted to spotlight the work of some of our classes offering cool collaboration experiences and an internship opportunity with our Ignite business partner, iContact Coaching.
We are gearing up for our annual registration season. A reminder that students wishing to return next year, must work with their base school counselor to complete the registration paperwork. Without a registration request, we cannot guarantee a student a seat for next year. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Academy Counselor Mr. Donald (ladonald1@fcps.edu).
As we reset for the new year, we have a few reminders for our students and families:
Be aware that the Academy schedule can be affected by inclement weather schedules - read on for more about that.
If your student is absent from Academy, please remember that base schools don't share attendance data with Academies - report attendance to Academy as well to ensure your student's attendance record is correct. Attendance contacts are at the bottom of this email.
And a gentle reminder for all feeder school students to wear their Academy lanyards at all times when on school grounds. This is for everyone’s safety and to quickly identify students in case of an emergency. Need help with lanyards? Come see Ms. Tarvid in E119.
Looking forward to a wonderful start to 2024 with all of our students!
Mrs. Cook

You do not need to report absences on days when FCPS delays opening or closes early. If you are absent for any other reason, your parent or guardian must notify the Academy via the attendance line or the online attendance form.
On a 2-hour delayed opening:
- AM and Mid-Day shuttles will not run. Students who drive should remain at their base school. Fairfax HS students follow the FHS bell schedule.
- Mid-Day/PM double blocked classes will be in session in the PM block. Shuttle riders should ride the PM shuttle (note: the shuttle number may be different).
- PM classes will be held as usual. PM shuttles will run as scheduled; please allow extra time for shuttles since inclement weather may cause some delays.
On a 2 hour early closing:
- AM classes will be held as scheduled.
- Mid-Day, MD/PM double block, and PM classes will be canceled.

Ms. Barnes’ and Mr. Dicenzo’s Theatre and Dance classes combined forces this week and worked together, sharing space, teachers, skill sets, and artistic viewpoints! Another reason the Academy is so special- the opportunities to connect with students from all over the county in organic and industry normative collaborations! |
Academy Ambassadors took time on Thursday, December 14th to spread some warm cheer (and cocoa) and give thanks to our incredible, dependable, wonderful bus drivers! So grateful to have a warm and cozy bus to take to and from Academy during these chilly months! |
