As we say Goodbye to 2023 and Hello to 2024, I want to extend my heartfelt wishes for a happy new year to our parents, students, and teachers.  May the coming year be filled with joy, success, and many cherished moments for each of you. Together, let's make 2024 one we will remember for years to come.

1. 🗓️ Attendance Matters

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When scheduling trips or family events, try to use weekends and school holidays, and refer to the FCPS Calendar when planning. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence to their school. Most schools have links to their attendance email or notification systems on their homepages. If you are unsure how to report an absence, please call your school’s front office. Please remember that if you are checking out your student notification to the school, it needs to be done before 1:30 pm.  After 1:30 pm, we can not guarantee on time dismissal.

2. Student Performances

Mr. Lackie and our Edison Choirs performed on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in a beautiful Winter Concert. See their YouTube page for the video!

3. Class of 2023: IB Diploma and Certificate Reception

Calling alumni of the class of 2023! Please join us in the cafeteria on January 4, 2024, from 3:00 – 4:30 PM to pick up your IB Certificates and/or IB Diploma. We would love to hear about your experiences after high school as we reminisce over some light refreshments.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Sabra Devers (sddevers@fcps.edu).

4. IB Programme Information Night

Please join Edison’s IB Coordinators, Ms. Sabra Devers and Ms. Corinne Nuttall, at Edison High School’s IB Night on January 17, 2024, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in the Auditorium. They will give an overview of the IB Programme at Edison as well as answer some of the most frequently asked questions, such as:

• How do you become an IB student?
• What is the Personal Project?
• What is the MYP Certificate?
• What are the benefits of taking IB courses?
• What is the IB Diploma?
• What is the difference between the IB Diploma and the IB Diploma Certificate?
