Atoms Weekly Recap
A recap from the week in winter sports:
Girls Basketball played three games this week. The growth and improvement of this team continues to show with each passing game. The Atoms played well against Falls Church but the inside presence of FC was just too much. The Atoms hosted Hayfield and traveled to Fairfax in their other two games for the week. The Atoms fell in both games but their determination and grit continues to keep them in games. The Atoms host the Raegan Sharnae Way Atoms Holiday Tournament over the break.
Boys Basketball had three games this week. The Atoms started the week off with a district win over Falls Church. The night was a back and forth affair before the Atoms ultimately pulled away in the final minutes to secure the win. The Atoms played two-time defending state champion Hayfield Wednesday evening and a region semifinal team Fairfax Friday. The Atoms competed and played hard in both games but came up short in their efforts. The Atoms travel to Myrtle Beach over the break for their holiday tournament.
Swim/Dive competed vs Justice last Saturday and the boys team took the win over Justice. The Atoms jumped back in the pool last night vs Lewis and it turned out to be a successful night as both the boys and girls teams scored over 200 points to get the win! There were several personal best times set last night and the Atoms hope to get continue that tonight as they take on TJ.
Wrestling traveled to Loudoun County last Saturday and came away with some impressive performances by many including Isaac Readinger and Carlos Monjares going undefeated for the day. The Atoms continue to improve with each match and return to the mat today as they travel to Woodson before heading to Woodbridge over the break.
Indoor Track had a successful meet at Thomas Jefferson Middle School Friday evening. Personal best were set by many athletes including Teagan Scott-Daniels qualifying for the regional met with her best high jump performance of the year. The Atoms return after the break to the track.
Gymnastics got back on the mats twice this week. Monday the Atoms continued to improve their skills at their meet at South County which helped the Atoms at their second meet at West Potomac. The Atoms had an all around great meet, finishing third, ahead of two other National District Schools. The Atoms take the break off and return to the floor on January 10 at Robinson.
We have officially finished our fall seasons with many of our Atoms student-athletes earning postseason All-District and All-Region recognition. These student-athletes worked hard and their achievements should be acknowledged! Check out the recipients using the link below:

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help
Special Ask... Atoms After School Snack Bar
As many of you know, the Atoms Athletic Boosters has been able to open our concessions stand after school for your children to grab a bite to eat prior to heading to their activities. If your schedule allows, please consider volunteering 1 day a week or even just 1-2 days a month. The hours are 3:15-4:15. This is a rare benefit in Fairfax County that we are able to provide for our kids, but we can’t do it without parent help. Please contact at odessapmurray@gmail.com or (703) 626-9647 if interested in helping.

Partners for Safe Teen Driving
Included in Grade 10 Health & PE is one quarter, or 30-36 hours, of in-classroom driver education. To get your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent/guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent/guardian, arrive ON TIME as the door is locked at 6:30pm, and you must remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified. Choose a date convenient for you and your parent/guardian. You may attend a session outside of your Driver Education quarter.
