Dear Poplar Tree Families,
As the crisp winter air settles in and winter break begins, it's time to pause, reflect, and celebrate. We've all been working hard, learning, and growing together this school year, and now it is time for a well earned break.
In order for our staff to have a real break, rest, rejuvenate, and spend quality time with their families, we are asking them to disconnect from FCPS email over the Winter Break. Staff will be back online Tuesday, January 2.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back in January refreshed and ready to learn.

 Season's Readings Photo Challenge
The joy of reading doesn't stop just because we're on vacation! Submit a photo of your student reading during Winter Break for a chance to win a bookish prize. They can be pictured reading alone, with a furry friend, with a buddy, or with a family member! Photos will be shared on the morning news show and on Poplar Tree social media accounts. Participants will be entered to win a randomly drawn $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. Please make a separate entry for each student for the prize drawing. One drawing entry will be given per student but feel free to submit more than one reading photo! Deadline to submit is Sunday, January 7. Submit your photo HERE!
🧥 SCA Winter Gear Drive 🧤
THANK YOU!
The SCA would like to thank the Poplar Tree community for their generous donations during our Winter Gear Drive! We had so many donations that we will be able to support three different homeless shelters in the area. Mrs. Sniffin has spoken with the shelters and they are blown away by what will be donated in the coming days and they know their residents will be extremely grateful. As always, thank you for your support of the SCA and our surrounding community!
Be on the look out for a Canned Food Drive run by the SCA in February.

Screener Results Coming Soon!
One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is the SEL Screener.
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of October, providing information on their skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions.
The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create the learning, experiences, and environments students need to be successful. The week of December 11th, individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

💻 Virginia Growth Assessment 📈
The winter window is upon us for our Virginia Growth Assessments. These standardized state tests are given to students in grades 3-6. Please see the winter VGA dates below.

CogAT Scores in Friday Folders
If your child took the CogAT test this fall, their score reports will be coming home in Friday folders TODAY!
🏀 CHS Basketball Pyramid Night🏀
Come to Chantilly High School on January 3 for two Varsity Basketball Double Headers! We will be celebrate Pyramid Night and we welcome families from our feeder schools to attend one or both games!
- 5:30 Girls Varsity vs. Stafford HS
- 7:30 Boys Varsity vs. Stafford HS
- Varsity Sideline Cheer will be at both games as well 🎉📣
All feeder students get in free to the games with a paying adult. Wear school spirit gear or school colors!
🤖 Robotics Workshop 🤖
Interested in learning more about robotics and programming? Attend a robotics workshop on Saturday, December 17 from 3:00 - 5:15 at the Chantilly Regional Library. The workshop is for students in grades 4-6 and is put on by some of our alumni from Poplar Tree! Registration is FREE! Sign up HERE!

🐝Sign-up is open for the Spelling Bee🐝
The Poplar Tree PTA has been planning for a successful spelling bee program for 2023-2024. Poplar Tree is proud to offer students an opportunity to exhibit their proficiency in the art of spelling and, just as importantly, vocabulary. The school Spelling Bee Champion will advance to the Fairfax County regional competition. The regional winner will go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee representing Fairfax County.
The registration deadline is 01/31/24.
