Winter Break (student holiday)- December 18 - January 1
We want to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season!
As a reminder, winter break will be held Monday, December 18th through Monday, January 1. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Our main office will be closed during winter break, yet we will monitor our voicemail on our main number of 703-313-4000 for any pertinent messages. Please feel free to reach out should you or your family have any needs. We know life doesn’t take vacations, feel free to call and see if we can assist you. We will be back in the office January 2, 2024.

Key Center Substitutes Needed
We are always looking for kind and caring substitutes. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for future teachers, stay-at-home parents, college students, part-time employees, and anyone who wants to make a difference! If you or someone you know is interested in this opportunity, please email Patti Alexander, Administrative Assistant, at plalexander@fcps.edu and apply online.
Substitutes will receive their hourly pay plus an additional $80 for each of the 18 designated high-volume days they work. All substitute instructional assistants will receive their hourly pay plus an additional $55 for each high-volume day they work. See the list of high-volume days.
A bonus program for substitutes:
- Substitutes working 50 days within a school year will earn a $200 bonus.
- Substitutes working 100 days within a school year will earn a $300 bonus.
- Substitutes working 150 days within a school year will earn a $400 bonus.
Bonuses will be paid quarterly in December, March, June, and July. Get more information about the pay schedule.
Snow Days This Winter
For the current school year, FCPS will be returning to its previous procedure for snow days — there will be no virtual learning days when school is closed due to bad weather.
During snow days, students may still access Tutor.com, complete any supplemental learning opportunities recommended by their teachers, and view educational programming (available virtually and on public access television channels):
Eleven snow days are built into the existing FCPS calendar. Eliminating virtual learning days will allow us to maximize students’ in-person learning and provide equitable access to instruction and student services.
ABA Family Training for December 2023
This workshop is intended for parents of students with the low incidence disabilities of
Autism and Intellectual Disabilities.
Topics covered will include:
- Toilet training readiness and prerequisite skills
- Methods of toilet training
- Troubleshooting night-time and diaper dependence issues
