LRES Community News 12.10.23

Message from Mrs. Castillo

Dental

We look forward to a fantastic last week of school for 2023!  There are many events taking place in the school.  Please be sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to any event start time to allow for parking and scanning your photo ID in the lobby.

Last week our kindergarten and first grade classes welcomed a local pediatric orthodontist in to teach our students about dental hygiene.  More classes have visits scheduled this week.  Our third graders shared their recent published writing pieces with our first grade classrooms.  Finally, check out some of our decorated classroom doors - we have a contest running through Wednesday!

See below for some reminders and we wish our entire community a happy and healthy holiday season!

  • Have time to volunteer on Thursday?  We need additional volunteers to extend staff lunch breaks for their special winter luncheon.
  • We are collecting grocery gift cards to distribute to Lemon Road families in need; any denominations can be dropped off in the main office and will be distributed Thursday & Friday.
  • Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Avery Straw no later than December 15.
  • Please send your child in with layers and label any jackets, hats, gloves, and water bottles so we can help your child keep track of their belongings.  We go outdoors for recess and offer outdoor lunch daily.

  • Our Holiday Food Drive is still running until Thursday Dec 14th - drop canned food into the Minion Box in the lobby or donate visa gift cards using the amazon link to help us keep local families fed this holiday season! Thank you for your support!
  • Did you see the updates at the front of school?!  The front garden by Door #1 has been updated by Wheats Landscaping in association with the PTA. The existing healthy plants were relocated around the front of the school.  The new planting will be easier to maintain and improves school security and visibility. In addition, Wheats will now provide a clean up of the key school landscaping areas twice annually for free! Thank you Wheats for your support with this project! We look forward to seeing the new garden bloom in Spring.
  • Class Winter Parties will be happening this Friday- please reach out to your classes Room Parents to find out how you can support!

Positivity Project: Self Control

Self Control

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Self-Control. Self-control means you can control your emotions and behaviors. You think before you act. Self-control is the act of managing behavior in a way that positively influences goal attainment and living up to standards. Possessing this strength protects people from destabilizing emotional extremes. Those with self-control can limit impulsive behavior. They are able to experience and navigate difficulty while remaining poised.
