Dear Poplar Tree Families,
On Monday, November 20, Sahaj Thakker was the Principal for the day and Anthony Berta was the Assistant principal for the day. First, we were on the Poplar Tree News Show. Then we took office pictures. After that we took a backstage tour and saw all the places where students couldn't go. We then selected books to read to the 1rst graders and kindergarteners. We took a security check and walked around making sure the doors were all locked. We then handed out awards to the teachers and staff. Then we took a book and read to the 1rst grade classes. Then we monitored the cafeteria and answered questions to the people who raised their hands. Then we went to a 6th grade class to do an SRR jeopardy. We ate lunch in the principal's office after that. After we ate lunch, we got our books and read to the kindergarteners. After we write this Memo, we will monitor recess, check on book fair breakdown, and assist with preschool dismissal and then we prepare for our dismissal.
We enjoyed this experience and hope that it will happen again for other students!

🧤🧣 SCA Winter Gear Drive 🧥
The SCA is collecting winter tear to donate to local homeless shelters to support our surrounding community. We will be collecting from now until December 15. Any winter items still in the lost and found on December 15 will also be added to the donation.

🍬 Candy Jar Fundraiser 🍭
Starting Wednesday December 7 through Wednesday, December 13, the SCA will be hosting a SCA Fundraiser! Students can make a guess for how much candy is in the candy jar for $0.25 a guess. The jar will be in the lobby during arrival time (8:20 - 8:40).
Closest guess without going over will win the candy!

💻 Virginia Growth Assessment
The winter window is upon us for our Virginia Growth Assessments. These standardized state tests are given to students in grades 3-6. Please see the winter VGA dates below.

🔋 Battery Recycling Project
Mrs. Walter’s Class has been learning about natural resources and the importance of recycling. During their lessons, they discovered how bad it is to throw batteries in the trash. They are now collecting batteries to be properly recycled at the I-66 transfer station as part of their community-based instruction.
Please bring in your old batteries and place them in the blue bucket in the front lobby.
❄️ Winter Fest at Rocky Run MS ❄️
The Rocky Run National Junior Honors Society invites you to join us this Sunday, December 3rd from 10am – 12pm for fun holiday themed crafts, games, refreshments, and face painting! No cost to attend, we just ask that you bring a toy to donate to our Toys for Tots collection drive.
📖 Language Arts Basal Review
Community Review of Elementary English Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources
Elementary English Language Arts basal instructional resources may be accessed in person and online from November 15, 2023, until noon on December 15, 2023. Digital materials for public review and comment will be available on the Elementary Language Arts Basal Resource Review website. Those reviewing instructional materials may complete an electronic comment sheet that will be available on the website during the review period.
Hard copies of instructional materials will be available for review at:
Pimmit Hills Center, Room 207 7510 Lisle Avenue Falls Church, VA 22043
Materials may be reviewed at Pimmit Hills Center Monday - Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitors should enter through door #4 and check in at the main office or with the building coordinator on duty.
All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.
