1.  Gift Cards!

We are collecting gift cards to raffle at the Annual Faculty Holiday Party on Thursday, December 14th.  Parents, families, and students are invited to send in donated gift cards to the main office addressed to Susan Tyson.

We kindly ask that we receive all gift card donations by Tuesday, December 12th. Please contact Susan Tyson at sgtyson@fcps.edu for more information.


2. Curriculum Fair for Rising 10th-12th Grades

We will be hosting a Curriculum Fair and information session for parents of rising 10th - 12th grade students (current 9th - 11th grades) on Wednesday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. to prepare for course selection in January.  We will start with a brief presentation in the auditorium about the course selection process and then will have a curriculum fair on the first floor. We look forward to welcoming you on December 13!

Rising 9th grade families, we will hold an Orientation to Course Selection in January just for you, stay tuned in the new year for more details!


Diary of Anne Frank

Dr. Reid joined us for the opening night of Diary of Anne Frank.  We are grateful of her support of the arts!


Cappies

3. Edison Theatre News

We have much to celebrate with our National Capital Area Cappies team from Edison! This week: Kudos to Malyha Bashar, sophomore and first year Cappies critic for her review of Annie at Falls Church being published in the FCPS Community News. And from last week: Lead critic and senior Natalie Laclede had her review of Oakton’s The Doctor in Wonderland sent to FCPS Community News.


4. Latin Convention Fieldtrip Results 

We had an absolutely fantastic result from the Latin Convention Field Trip. Forty-six Latin students won over 90 academic and creative awards. Nidhi Vasudevan won 5th place overall top performance for 9th grade students. Ace Rawad won second place overall performance for 11th grade students as well as the top award for Graphic Arts, the Mary Julia Pomfrey award, out of all 1100 students in attendance.  Joshua Kohm (11th grade), won his campaign for the Virginia Junior Classical League (Virginia State Latin Organization) Parliamentarian position and will now serve in a leadership role for the entire state.


5. College and Career Center Event

FCPS Region 3, Postsecondary Planning Night for Spanish Speakers.

What: A presentation about college and career options after high school

Date:  Wednesday, December 6, 2023

Time:  6:30 pm – 8:00 pm 

Location:  Hybla Valley Community Center, 7950 Audubon Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22306.  (The community center is located behind the Costco on Route 1)

ParkingThere is limited parking in the community center lot.  There is also street parking available.

  • 6:50-7:05pm: WPHS Academy Program
  • 7:05-7:20pm: Marine Recruiter

  • 7:35-7:50pm: George Mason University & ADVANCE
  • 7:50-8:00pm: Financial Aid Overview & Closing
