The SPDT (Stone Panthers Dance Team) Jazz Team performed Saturday at the Unity Dance competition at Yorktown High and placed first in the middle school dance category.

Good afternoon Stone Families,

We are quickly approaching the winter break. In these next two weeks, attendance is crucial. Honestly, attendance is crucial everyday. We are starting to notice a rise in students missing school or arriving late to classes. Therefore, we want to ensure that families are aware of their student’s attendance; so starting in 2024 we will be sending out an attendance report card. These reports will have full day  attendance data and tardy data on them. Please know that at Stone Middle School, Attendance matters.

Tomorrow is VGA testing....please ensure students are well rested and on time.

Let's have a great week Panthers!

Sincerely,

Sonya Williams

Principal

🕰️Winter Break Office Hours

❄️ Preparing for Winter Weather

weather video

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place where we will post an emergency weather closing. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and plan for childcare if appropriate.

🎒Academic Advising Info for 2024-25SY

It’s that time of year when our school counseling team is busy planning and developing lessons for our Academic Advising season for the 2024-25 school year!

As a preview, we will be kicking off 2024 with a visit from Westfield HS for our current 8th graders, then welcome the current 6th graders from our feeder elementary schools for a visit, and end with our individualized meetings for our current 7th grade students.

Our goals for this Academic Advising season include -

 FCPS Goals

  • Every student will acquire critical and creative thinking skills, meet/exceed high academic standards, and achieve their highest academic potential. (Strategic Plan Goal #3 - Academic Growth and Excellence)

 Stone Goals

  • To provide an opportunity for every student to have an individual academic advising session to review their current academic progress, discuss academic goals and challenges, while partnering with parents to enroll every student in the courses that best meet their academic needs and potential.
  • To build staff awareness of our academic advising plans, share important dates for potential lessons and advising sessions
  • To provide staff the resources to help students navigate the open enrollment process by providing verbal feedback when requested from students or parents about courses for the following year.

For parents of 8th graders, mark your calendars for the Westfield High School Curriculum Night on Wednesday, January 3rd at 6:30pm.  For more information, contact Vanessa Hunter @VJHunter@fcps.edu or visit the Westfield HS Academic Advising website.

Parents of 6th or 7th graders who will be attending Stone for the 2024-2025 school year, mark your calendars for our Curriculum Night on Thursday, February 8th to hear about course information by content area and the transition from elementary to middle school.  For more information, contact Tami Brumett @TLBrumett@fcps.edu

🧠SEL Screener Results Coming Soon

One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is through the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. In October, students in grades 3-12 took this screener in October, which gives information about their skills such as achieving goals, handling emotions, building relationships with adults and peers, and making good choices.

The screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create learning, experiences, and environments for students to succeed.

In early December, families will be able to view student SEL Screener results in SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent by mail.

For more information about the screener please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For help understanding your child’s results or ideas to support them at home, review the Family Guide or contact your child’s school.

If you are in need of suppport getting these items, please contact your child's counselor and they will be happy to support you.

🌟FCPS Cares

Please recognize those Stone MS Staff Members who have made a positive impact for your student/family.
