Dear Dranesville Families:
I regret to say that the November 20 School Board Meeting has been canceled. An item of importance to our community was on the agenda—the presentation by Facilities and Planning of the preferred option for the McLean Elementary School Boundary Adjustment. This work will move forward as scheduled. Please see below for more information.

November 20 School Board Meeting Canceled
Tonight's November 20 Fairfax County School Board meeting is canceled. However, the McLean Elementary Boundary Adjustment vote remains on schedule for December 4. You may view the presentation planned for tonight’s meeting and learn more about the recommended boundary adjustment and phasing plan on the FCPS BoardDocs website here or on the McLean Elementary Schools Capacity/Boundary Changes (formerly Kent Gardens Capacity Challenges) webpage.
The next steps in the process are:

November 30, 2023: 6 -8p.m.- Public Hearing
- Luther Jackson Middle School (3020 Gallows Rd, Falls Church)

December 4, 2023: 7:30 p.m.- Regular Meeting- scheduled vote

The proposed boundary adjustment addresses the capacity concerns at Kent Gardens ES by using available capacity at other schools. The proposed boundary adjustment includes the following elements of critical importance to the public:
- Middle and high school boundaries do not change.
- French Immersion remains at KGES.
- Existing areas that currently walk to school are maintained.
- Neighborhoods are not split.
- No attendance islands are created.
If approved, the boundary adjustment will go into effect for the 2024-25 school year. The School Board will decide on phasing plans when they vote on the boundary adjustment on December 4.
Public Hearing- November 30, 6-8p.m.
Here is the link to sign up to speak at the 11/30 Public Hearing on the proposed boundary adjustment and the proposed phasing Fairfax County and city residents, FCPS staff, FCPS students, FCPS guardians who are non-Fairfax County residents, and FCPS business partners who want to address the Board may register to speak by submitting a request online. Students are welcome to speak. Speakers have 2 minutes to address the School Board.
McLean Elementary Schools Capacity/Boundary Changes Webpage
The McLean Elementary Schools Capacity/Boundary Changes (formerly Kent Gardens Capacity Challenges) webpage contains the November 20 presentation, and previous community meeting presentations. A "Frequently Asked Questions" document will be posted on the webpage soon to address some questions families may have on the boundary adjustment.
More information will be posted on the webpage after the School Board takes action scheduled for December 4, 2023. This information will include a street listing of addresses impacted, phasing information, and other information families and students need to know.
