Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey!

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE.  Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and enter Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).

FLE Parent Preview Night: Grades 4-6

Dear Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades 4-6:

Students in grades 4-6 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher.   Students in grades 4-6 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit.  For more information about the FCPS Family Life Education program, please see the detailed grade-level program descriptions at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle.

In addition, grade level-specific curriculum lessons are available for review in multiple locations.

  • Online in Schoology - includes lessons and media titles that FCPS has streaming rights for. Any additional media or book titles that are not streamed are available at your child’s school library.
    • Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account.
  • Your child’s school. Please contact the school to schedule a time to review lessons and/or media.
  • City of Fairfax Regional Library – lessons only. Media is not available.

You are invited to attend a virtual evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the FLE curriculum pertaining to your child’s grade level. Sangster’s FLE Grades 4 – 6 Parent Preview Night will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at 6:30PM.

Parents/guardians who do not wish to have their child participate in FLE instruction may choose to opt their child out of any or all of the lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more lessons, you may access and print the opt out forms online at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle. If you have already indicated your desire to opt your child out of FLE lessons by using the form provided earlier in the school year, you do not need to complete another form.

An alternative non-FLE health instructional program is provided for students who do not take part in FLE instruction, and every effort is made to foster understanding and respect for family choices and to avoid peer pressure for or against participation in the program.

This year, students in Grades 5 and 6 will participate five (5) different Human Growth and Development (HGD) lessons, daily, from December 11th – December 15th, 2023.  The one day 4th Grade HGD lesson will occur on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Your child’s teacher will be in touch prior to the Emotional and Social Health lessons, which will all be administered in the Spring of 2024.

Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jankovich

🔖Labeling Student Items

Now that the weather is getting colder, please make sure student names are in jackets, sweatshirts, coats, hats, mittens, etc. When they inevitably get lost or forgotten somewhere, if we can find a name we will return the item to the student. Labeling these items helps to keep our Lost and Found collection to a minimum. Thanks for your help!

🧼 Staying Healthy This Cold/Flu Season

Cases of RSV, the flu, and other viruses often rise this time of year. It is important for students to wash their hands regularly and cover their coughs and sneezes. Please monitor your child’s health daily and follow recommendations for when to keep them home due to illness. Visit FCPS' Health and Safety Guidance webpage for more tips.

Happy Thanksgiving!

gratitiude

This week’s character strength is Gratitude. Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness.

The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).

Meet the Author Series: Raising a Kid that Can

Why are kids today struggling? And based on all that modern science has to offer, what are the most important things I can do in raising my kid? Learn from a child psychiatrist, a parent psychologist, and a child therapist, who have reinvented the parenting book. Organized in a novel “guidebook” style that’s illustrated, skimmable, and fun to read, it’s easy to find immediately useful strategies that you can apply to your specific kid. Usable at any stage in your child’s life, this book helps parents get right to the information they need, when they need it. It’s time to parent smarter, not harder!

The authors have created a playbook that arms families with the tools needed to navigate a complex world and help children move from an age of anxiety into an age of adaptability.

Join authors Catherine McCarthy, M.D.; Heather Tedesco, PhD.; & Jennifer Weaver, LCSW as they discuss their book and take your questions.
