Thankful and Grateful
As Thanksgiving approaches we want to take a moment share how thankful we are at KPES for our students, staff, families and greater community. We are grateful for you all and wish all of our KP Lions and their families a safe, healthy and restful Thanksgiving Break.
The adventures and learning never stop. Check our 3rd grade students who visited Green Springs Garden. The students were actively engaged in learning about nature and our local habitats.

Meet Me at the Library, Tuesday, Nov. 28th
We are excited to be partnering with WETA and bringing back our Meet Me at the Library events for the 23-24 school year! This event is a great opportunity for families to listen to stories, play some games, and participate in activities to promote literacy, math skills, and problem solving skills.
On Tuesday, Nov. 28th, families are invited to the Kings Park Public Library (9000 Burke Lake Rd, Burke, VA 22015) at 5:00 PM for an hour-long session focusing on Storytelling and STEAM with some amazing Kings Park teachers and staff. This workshop pairs classics from children’s literature with engaging STEAM activities to engage young children in early problem-solving skills. This is a free event for Kings Park students. Every student that attends will receive a free book from WETA. We hope to see you in the Community Meeting Room at the Kings Park Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 28th at 5:00!

Advanced Academics Reminder: Window for AAP Full-Time (Level IV) Referrals Ends Dec.15, 2023
Parents/guardians of KPES students in Grades 2-3 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (Level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Mrs. Mucciolo (JMMucciolo@fcps.edu) no later than December 15.
The window to submit an AAP Full-Time (Level IV) Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.
Submitting a referral form for AAP Full-Time services (Level IV) will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for full-time placement. Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Jamie Mucciolo in mid/late February.
For more information, parents may review Testing and Identification information on the AAP office website, as well as information about Level IV (full-time) AAP services. Please reach out to Jamie Mucciolo via email at JMMucciolo@fcps.edu with any further questions.

The Book Fair Is Back!
Nov 29th - Dec 8th
The Book Fair Is Back! This year Kings Park will host its annual book fair from November 29th – December 8th. The afternoon of November 29th – December 1st will be an opportunity for students to visit the fair with their class and make wish lists. No sales will happen during this time in an effort to allow all students a chance to see what is available.
Students who wish to purchase books will have the opportunity to shop at a given time each day from December 4th – December 8th. Please see below for each grade’s shopping time. Students will also be able to shop during their classes Library time that week.
- Kindergarten: 9:10 – 9:30
- 1st Grade: 9:30 – 9:50
- 2nd Grade: 12:10 – 12:30 M/T/W/TH and 8:45 – 9:15 F
- 3rd Grade: 1:45 – 2:05 M/T/W/TH and 8:45 – 9:15 F
Our fair will also be open late on Tuesday, December 5th! Come shop as a family after school until 6:30.
We are encouraging families to set up eWallets for their student to shop cash free this year. These can be set up on our fair homepage. This way students do not have to worry about keeping track of cash and change during the school day. Please note that any unused funds loaded in an eWallet will convert to an eGift card at the end of the Book Fair for use at the Online Scholastic Store.
We kindly ask you to send your student with bills instead of bags of coins to help seed up the process at the register. Checks should be made out to Kings Park ES. We are excited to announce that Scholastic is no longer charging school’s tax!
We thank you for your support in this fundraiser for our library. Our fair would not be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please sign up using this link.
