New Student Check-in Check-out System at Herndon ES
We ask that parents accompany students that are late into the school building, where an office staff member will assist with a computerized check-in process. Please do not drop off your child at the front of the building.
Need to check your child out at the end of the day? Please send in a note so that the teacher and office are aware. Also, please come to the office no later than 3:30pm. It is very busy in the classrooms as the teachers and students are closing out the end of the day.
We appreciate your cooperation in implementing this new procedure, as it helps us maintain a secure and organized environment for all students. Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school safe for everyone!

November is Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also a time to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges they have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges..

Stuff the Bus Donations
All November Long
This year, giving has never been easier as the Fairfax County Stuff the Bus campaign has gone virtual. From Nov. 1-30, 2023, individuals and community groups can make monetary donations directly to local non-profit organizations that provide food assistance in Fairfax County. The campaign coincides with Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week in Fairfax County. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors designated Nov.11-18, 2023 (the week before Thanksgiving), as Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week to raise awareness about the pressing issues of hunger and homelessness in Fairfax County. Read more here on how to help.

The vision of Herndon Elementary School is to provide students with a safe, nurturing learning environment where all students will work to their full potential.
The mission of Herndon Elementary is to develop children to their full potential by ensuring a high level of success for all students. Teachers will work to differentiate instruction, provide a safe environment, and develop goals with students. Parents and teachers will work together as a community to prepare students to become productive citizens.
Our vision for the 2023-2024 school year is…
- We will know all of our bees as scholars and as humans.
- As a staff, we are a team and collectively responsible for all of our bees.
- We will bring joy to our Bees' lives everyday and celebrate their successes throughout the school year.
- All members of our Hive will know that belong here.
