Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Briggs

Science Olympiad

Dear Spring Hill Families,

Last weekend, I had the honor of attending the awards ceremony at Langley High School for our very own Science Olympiad teams. SHES Team Mavericks won 14 medals and are the team with the highest number of wins/medals in the state of VA for the VASO Div A competitions held on November 11. SHES Team Wizards won 11 medals and had the third highest number of wins/medals in the state of VA for the VASO competitions held on November 11. It was wonderful being able to celebrate their hard work!

On Friday, we had our school-based technology specialist, Morgan Ackourey present valuable information regarding internet safety. She provided resources and information as to how best to navigate these issues. We also had the privilege of hearing from one of our former SHES student, Aahil Valliani.  Mr. Valliani and his two sons, Aahil and Vohran  founded an AI engine that will help block inappropriate content and help educate our students on online safety. I am so proud of Aahil and Vohran. They exemplify the kind of global citizens that we are trying to foster in all of our students!

As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to thank all of our parents for your continued support. We are so blessed to have such an involved parent community and partners in educating your students. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. As a reminder, schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, November 22, through Friday, November 24. Classes will resume on Monday, November 27

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

VGA testing

Students in grades 3-8 take the Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) in fall and winter. The purpose of these assessments is to measure student growth and progress in reading and mathematics content standards.

The focus for VGA test content depends on the testing window:

-          Fall VGA tests primarily address content standards from the students' reading and mathematics courses last year.

-         Winter VGA tests primarily assess content standards for the reading and mathematics courses the student is taking this year.
