1st Quarter Report Cards Go Home Today

Progress Reports and Grading

This week, families with students in grades 1-6 will be receiving first quarter report cards. FCPS operates on a standards-based grading system. This means that students receive multiple grades in each subject based on the many, diverse standards for those subjects. For each standard, students will receive a grade of a 1, 2, 3, or 4. These grades do not correlate to the traditional letter grades that have been used in the past. You can find more specific information about the parameters of these grades by following this link to the FCPS Elementary Grading and Reporting Handbook for Parents. In addition to the numerical grades, you may also see grades of ‘nt’ and ‘na’. The indicator ‘nt’ stands for “not taught”. This means that this standard has not yet been taught this school year. The indicator ‘na’ means ‘not assessed’, which means the student has not yet been formally assessed on that standard. All standards will be taught, assessed, and graded by the end of the school year. To find more information on the content being taught and assessed for your child’s specific grade level, go to the Grade Level Information page on the FCPS website.

Turkey Trot

Get ready to ruffle some feathers parents and families!  Our Bush Hill PE department is hosting a Turkey Trot the week of November 13th!  This will take place either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, to ensure all classes get a chance to participate during their PE class.  Students will run as many laps as they can for their classroom.  Winners will receive bragging rights (obviously 😉) and a prize to be determined!  Please be sure to dress appropriately, including sneakers.  Gobble, Gobble Panthers!

November Is Military Family Appreciation Month

Veterans, thank you for your service to our country, and for continuing to serve our local community and our children!

The Office of Family and School Partnerships provides resources and support for military families transitioning to or exiting FCPS. Contact Meredith Ayala, family partnerships specialist and military liaison, for more information. Sign up for the military-connected families newsletter.

Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE.  Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.
