Stronger together
Dear Clearview Families,
Thank you families, teachers, and staff!! By all reports, we held highly collaborative parent-teacher conferences! Don't worry if you were not able to meet with your child’s teacher this week. There are many opportunities to communicate with your child’s teachers including phone, email and Talking Points. Also, there are so many ways to stay engaged with Clearview including attending events, subscribing for News You Choose, and/or logging into Schoology, Facebook, and/or Instagram.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or compliments you may have. If you have seen a Clearview staff member going above and beyond, fill out an FCPS Cares here.
Have a FABULOUS weekend!

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey
If you haven’t yet filled out the Federal Impact Aid Survey, the deadline is approaching. Why is completing this form for each child important? Impact Aid results in an additional $3 million each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools, including Clearview.
Please watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page for more information.
The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE and copies are available in the main office upon request. Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.
Thank You Voters! 2023 School Bond Referendum Passed
Thank you to the Fairfax citizens who supported the 2023 Bond Referendum. Roughly 67% of those voting in the 2023 election supported the $435 million bond referendum, continuing a long history of school bond approvals in Fairfax County.
Stay engaged as we build our future. Keep up-to-date on construction and capital improvements across FCPS by visiting our Capital Improvement Project webpage.

Native American Heritage Month
 |
|
Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also a time to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges they have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges. |
🧡National Family Engagement Month 🧡
National Family Engagement Month reminds us that families are children's first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers. More than 35 years of research shows that the most effective way to increase student achievement is for families to be actively involved in the education of their child. Strong parental and family support is vital to the well-being and success of students. FCPS has many resources for families designed to increase engagement and partnerships with families while fostering academic success and social-emotional growth.

Communication and our children's digital lives
Engaging in open and honest conversations with your children about their technology use is crucial in today's digital age, as it allows you to understand their online activities, interests, and potential risks they may encounter. By actively participating in your child's digital life, you can help them navigate the internet safely, teach them about responsible online behavior, and foster a healthy balance between screen time and other important activities. Communication builds trust, and when your children know they can talk to you about their online experiences without fear of judgment, they are more likely to seek your guidance when faced with online challenges or dangers. Being a supportive and involved parent in the digital world not only helps protect your child from online threats but also strengthens your relationship and promotes their overall well-being in today's tech-driven society. Remember, your active engagement in their digital journey is a powerful tool in shaping their online habits and ensuring their safety.
🔍 Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity
FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.

Join us for next week’s PTA meeting
Our next meeting is THIS Wed., Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. featuring a special pop-up art show in the cafeteria. Thank you to Kelly Fergus, art teacher, for putting together some wonderful displays and to Carla Falconi who will be again interpreting for our Spanish-speaking families. If you can’t make it in person, the Zoom link will be posted on our PTBoard website shortly before the meeting. If you join via Zoom, please make sure your first and last name are visible, so we know to let you into the meeting.
Camp Read-A-Lot also raised a lot (of money)
We’ve shared before how it costs about $14,000 to send every Clearview K-6 student on a field trip each year. Thanks to your incredible support of our read-a-thon, we raised $15,000! So not only do we have enough money for field trips, we’ll be able to apply the additional funds toward staff appreciation. We received a lot of positive feedback about Camp Read-A-Lot—from the encouragement of reading to the Dr. Seuss Bingo to the fun prizes. Big thanks to our PTA fundraising lead, Brian Kelley, for his creativity and enthusiasm. He certainly earned his reputation as the “dad with donuts” among the students!
Dine at Wendy’s on Tuesday
This Tuesday, Nov. 14, head over to Wendy’s at 2160 Centreville Road (next to Taco Bell and across the street from Worldgate) for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Be sure to mention Clearview, show this email, or bring the flyer. As long as our total sales are at least $200, the PTA will receive 20% back.
Try a little turkey at Clearview next week
In case you missed the school's flyer this week, we’ve posted the Thanksgiving lunch schedules on the PTA calendar. View the schedules for grades K-3 on Wednesday and grades 4-6 on Thursday. The cost for parents and non-Clearview students is $4.75 and must be paid in cash. And to make sure there is room in the cafeteria for all guests, please make sure you pack a lunch for the day your children are NOT having their Thanksgiving lunch because they will be eating in their classrooms.
Volunteers needed: Thanksgiving basket distribution and the Clearview bookfair
On Tues., Nov. 21 join us to help load Thanksgiving meal baskets into cars as they pull up to the front of the school. Volunteer shifts are one hour each (11 a.m.-12 p.m., 3:45-4:45 p.m., or 4:45-5:45 p.m.), but you can sign up for multiple shifts if you're available. Student volunteers are eligible for service hours. Sign up here. Questions? Contact Alexis Pozinsky at 703.708.6075 or apozinsky@fcps.edu.
It’s almost bookfair time and we need many parent and community volunteers to make this event a success! View the open shifts and sign up to volunteer here.
- Mon., Nov. 27 and Tues., Nov. 28 from 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. (multiple shift options): Student preview visits
- Wed., Nov. 29, Thurs., Nov. 30, and Fri., Dec. 1 from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (multiple shift options): Help students select books to purchase
- Evening of Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5-7:15 p.m.: Book fair sales (cashier)
Donors needed: holiday gifts for Clearview families
Through a partnership between the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston and Clearview Elementary, Candyland is an event that promotes generosity during the holiday season through gift donations for children in need in the Herndon area. If you would like to participate, email Elysa Birman (hr.rotarysatellite@gmail.com) to sign up. She will send you a wish list by email. You’ll then purchase the gifts and return them (unwrapped) by the date Elysa shares with you. The Rotary Club will wrap and deliver all gifts. In addition to fulfilling wish lists, the Rotary Club gratefully accepts cash donations to purchase gift cards for older kids.
