Message from Mrs. Durso

Hello Wolfpack!

It's been another week brimming with meaningful events at Oak Hill!

Last Friday, we paid tribute to our nation's heroes with a special Veteran's Day breakfast. The event featured heartwarming musical performances, including the national anthem by members of our music team. Thank you, Mrs. Peterson, Mr. Sarisky, Ms. Porter, Ms. Field, and Ms. Taylor. Over 60 of our 4th graders showcased their vocal talents with the powerful song "Soldier, This Song I Sing for You" by John Jacobson and Walter Jack. Additionally, several 6th grade band students presented a moving performance of America the Beautiful. We were honored to have several veterans visit our classrooms, sharing their inspiring stories of service to our country.

On Tuesday, we commemorated Ruby Bridges' courageous stand for equality during Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. Students wore purple, Ruby's favorite color, and many immersed themselves in her remarkable story throughout the day. Ruby's bravery and determination in the face of adversity at the young age of six left a profound impact on our students. They were deeply moved to learn that these events transpired just 63 years ago. Ruby's story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of embracing diversity, standing up for justice, and creating a more inclusive world.

The excitement at Oak Hill extends far beyond these special events. I had the privilege of witnessing a thought-provoking cross-grade level Socratic Seminar between Ms. Wright's 6th graders and Mrs. Davidson's 4th graders. The students engaged in an insightful discussion exploring the influence of the buffalo on Arapaho culture. Construction has officially begun on our brand-new preschool playground, and we eagerly await its completion. On Wednesday, 28 of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders were celebrated for their outstanding participation in the Science Olympiad Division A Tournament. And to top it off, our Girls on the Run team is gearing up for their 5K race this weekend.

We are incredibly proud of the remarkable achievements of our Oak Hill wolves!

Veterans Day photo

Thank you to all the veterans who came for the breakfast and shared experiences with our students.  The performances by our music teachers, band students, and 4th grade singers were wonderful and much appreciated!  Thank you to Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Field and Mr. Sarisky for organizing those performances.

Reminder of Procedures

1.  Photo IDs

All visitors must be prepared to show their photo ID when entering the building.  This is for the safety of all students.  We appreciate your cooperation.

2.  Kiss and Ride

As the weather turns colder and we have more families choosing to drive their children to school, please remember to model safe driving for your children. Our first priority is helping all of our children arrive at school safely. . All families choosing to drive to school must adhere to the following:

  • Drivers, please follow all traffic laws and drive slowly when approaching intersections and crosswalks. Please, no U-Turns in the middle of Kinross Circle.
  • Leave earlier, even 5 minutes will help. More cars means it will take more time to get everyone through Kiss and Ride.

Help us keep everyone safe by leaving extra time, driving slowly and practicing patience. Our teachers and crossing guards will direct traffic to the best of their ability, and they rely on partnership with drivers to keep everyone safe.

3. Late Arrivals

As a reminder, the doors close at 8:45.  Students are late after this time and parents will need to park, come to the office and sign their student in.  Doors open to students at 8:30.

Thanksgiving Holiday

Can't find your child's favorite sweatshirt or jacket?  Please encourage your child to look for their missing items in our lost and found or you are welcome to come in to the lobby and search as well.  Please consider putting your child's name or initials on the label of their jackets/sweatshirts.  This helps us re-unite students with their missing items.
