Veterans Day
With November approaching, our Mantua school community would like to celebrate our veterans and thank them for their sacrifices for our country. We would like to honor your family’s veteran(s) in our veteran slideshow that will be played in our front lobby throughout November. Please submit a digital photograph to Jane Dunfee (pjdunfee@fcps.edu) with the following information:
Name and Picture of your Veteran
- Rank
- Branch of the military in which they served/are serving
- Wars, Conflicts, or Places they served
In addition, we are holding a breakfast for our veterans and their families on Friday, November 10th, at 8:30 in the library. Families and students are welcome to attend the breakfast with their Veterans. After breakfast concludes, we would like to honor all service members with a victory lap (walk) in our hallways at 9:15 so that our students can recognize and cheer on our attendees as they walk by classrooms. Please indicate if your veteran and their family members can attend by RSVPing through this link.
As a school-wide community service project, we are collecting items for Walter Reed Medical Center in October and November. The families and patients at Walter Reed are appreciative of the following items:
Salty snacks
- Individual-size cookie packages (such as Oreo, Nutter Butter, etc.)
- Ladies body wash (individual travel size)
- Men’s body wash (individual travel size)
- Hard candy individually wrapped
- Small packages of tissues (pocket size)
- Keurig regular, not decaf pods (Starbucks and Peet’s are desired favorites)
- Beef jerky
Boxes for items are located in the lobby. Items will be collected from October 10th through November 20th. The grade that fills their box the fastest will receive a prize.
It is our pleasure and honor to recognize all veterans' sacrifices to ensure our freedom as Americans. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to teach caring, civic duty, and responsibility to our Mantua Elementary School students. If you have any questions, please email Elizabeth Murphy at esmurphy4@fcps.edu.
