Floris Families,
WOW... it is already almost the end of 2023, and today is the last day of school in 2023. It has been a busy and wonderful few months of school, with our staff working hard to keep our students learning. Now it is time for Winter Break! Mother Nature even sent a little winter precipitation on Monday to kick off the week.
We enjoyed a fabulous music showcase on Tuesday evening including our 5th-6th grade band, chorus, and strings students. Kudos to our music teachers, Sean Arzaga, Deni Cunningham, Steven Field, Tori Field, and Danielle McLellan, and our students, for the many hours of hard work and planning to allow our students this performance opportunity.
Thank you to our caring community for the wonderful donations given to the Annual Giving Tree. Thanks also to Sarah de Kramer, James Duffield, and Maggie Seneca for making this happen for our families!
As a reminder, Winter Break will be held December 18 to January 1. All FCPS Schools are closed, and the Floris Main Office will also be closed. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
In order to give everyone a true break, teachers will not be assigning homework over the Winter Break, and no tests/due dates will be on January 2-3, 2024.
In order for our staff to have a real break, rest, rejuvenate, and spend quality time with their families, we are asking them to disconnect from FCPS email over the Winter Break. Staff will be back online Tuesday, January 2.
The next Friday Message will be sent on January 5, 2024.
We hope that your families have a wonderful Winter Break and a Happy New Year. We look forward to a fabulous 2024!

Monthly Tips from FCPS Food and Nutrition Services
Healthy Snacking Tips
The rise in overweight children means that parents need to take an active role in providing healthy snacks for their children. ● Keep snacks small. ● Don’t eat snacks straight out of the package. ● Snack only when hungry, not bored. ● Limit sweet snacks such as brownies, cookies, and candy because they are often loaded with calories and sugar. ● Offer fruits and vegetables. ● Offer low fat cheese with whole grain crackers or pretzels. ● Quench thirst with water or low fat milk, not soft drinks. ● Read food labels carefully – if first ingredient is sugar AVOID IT.
HEALTHY TIPS FOR THE BREAK
● Start the day with breakfast. ● Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. ● Eat lighter meals at night. ● Limit portion sizes of favorite holiday foods, especially desserts. ● Eliminate night-stress-related gorging, especially in front of the TV. ● Go to bed feeling light, not “full”. ● Enjoy your feast, family, and friends. ● Remember to exercise 60 minutes per day.
Christmas (12/25)
A very Merry Christmas to those in our community who celebrate! Christmas is an annual holiday that commemorates the birth of Jesus, and is celebrated in many unique ways across the U.S. and the world. #OurFCPS
