Attention 6th grade students! Do you like playing basketball? If so, you’re in luck! Mr. DeBaldo, Mr. Smalley, and Mr. Credle will be hosting a basketball club every Friday morning at 8am during the 2nd Quarter of school in the McNair Upper gym. This club will start on Friday, November 17th at 8am and is open to boys and girls in 6th grade only. There is limited space, and we can take up to 40 participants.
If interested, please fill out the attached form (click on the link below) and return it to your child’s 6th grade teacher.

Parents and Guardians of 6th grade students are invited to attend an information session hosted by the Advanced Academic Resource Teachers (AARTs) from elementary schools within the Carson MS Pyramid and the Carson Middle School AART. The AARTs will jointly present an Overview of Advanced Academic Programs in Middle School and High School. The presentation will cover topics including the goals of AAP in FCPS, the AAP Continuum of Services in Middle and High School, Honors vs. AAP courses, and Math offerings available to students in middle school. *Closed Captioning will be available in Spanish*

A community review of the VDOE-approved Cycle II core instructional materials is scheduled for November 15, 2023, until noon on December 15, 2023. As part of the public review process, an open house has been scheduled during this period to allow community members to ask questions to members of the Elementary Language Arts team. Please share the information included in this communication with school staff and community by November 20, 2023.
Digital materials for public review and comment will be available on the Elementary Language Arts Basal Resource Review website.

Materials may be reviewed at Pimmit Hills Center Monday - Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitors should enter through door #4 and check in at the main office or with the building coordinator on duty.
An open house with representatives from the Elementary Language Arts team will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.
FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources, which become part of FCPS' general operating budget. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.
McNair Upper Elementary School is participating in this annual survey. Families are encouraged to complete the survey through ParentVue. Information on access to the online survey is available at https://www.fcps.edu/node/49068. Printed forms were sent home in Thursday folders. However, the survey will continue to be available in ParentVUE and families can choose how to complete the form, either printed or electronically.

Full Time Advanced Academics Screening Information Session
This information session will be hosted by Kaitlin Burg (McNair ES Advanced Academic Resource Teacher) and Mallory Janofsky (McNair Upper ES Advanced Academic Resource Teacher). We will provide detailed information about the Full Time/Level IV Screening Process, including how to make a referral and which documents families can submit. The deadline for families to submit the referral and supporting documents is December 15 and 11:59 p.m. Spanish translation will be available at this event.
- Tuesday, November 14 – 6:00-7:00PM in the cafeteria at McNair Elementary School (PreK-2 building)
- Friday, November 17th –9:00-10:00AM in the cafeteria at McNair Elementary School (PreK-2 building)
Mrs. Janofsky will host virtual Office Hours at the dates and times below to answer specific questions regarding the Level IV screening process. If you need an overview of the entire process, please attend one of the information sessions as listed above.
Questions will be answered one at a time in a one on one format. Each parent/guardian will remain in the “waiting room” to respect student privacy.
