Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time (Level IV) Referral Form to Tracy Haynes at tlhaynes@fcps.edu no later than December 15, 2023.
The window for families to submit a referral for full-time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.
While there is a staff referral process in place, we kindly request that parents refrain from asking staff members to refer their child. In the event that your child is referred by a staff member, the school will notify you after December 15th for any additional input needed.
Submitting a referral form for full-time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for full-time placement. Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Mrs. Haynes at tlhaynes@fcps.edu. Please note that these files move with the children, so we only have access to current Pine Spring student files.
Referrals for subject-specific and part-time AAP are screened at the local school. If you miss this deadline, your student can still be screened for subject-specific AAP or part-time AAP for the remainder of the year and submit a referral for full-time AAP next fall.

The online version of the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test Third Edition (NNAT3) will be administered to our 1st grade students on 11/28-12/1.
The NNAT3 is a nonverbal measure of general intellectual ability. The test evaluates a student’s reasoning and problem-solving skills through the identification of patterns involving geometric shapes and pictorial designs. The test is designed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write, or speak. It is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school.
For additional information about the Naglieri, please visit the FCPS website at https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/abilities-test-info If you have any questions, please email Stephanie Sutton at slsutton@fcps.edu.
