Rose Hill Becomes a Purple Star School!
Rachal Edwards, Principal, and Kate Pennington, Family Liaison, attended the school board meeting where they recognized for helping Rose Hill receive the Purple Star designation.
The Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children recently recognized eighteen Fairfax County public schools as 2023 Purple Star Schools and Rose Hill is one of them!
The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families.
The Purple Star Schools designation has been awarded annually since 2018. Schools earning the Purple Star must have a staff member designated as a point of contact for military students and families, providing professional learning, resources and programming on issues important to military families and have an active peer-led transition team to welcome new students from military families. At FCPS, the peer-led transition teams are student ambassadors that support military students' transition to school.
Rose Hill is proud to now say that they are a Purple Star designated school!
PTA Annual Fun Run Fundraiser
This picture is from last year when the overall goal of the Fun Run was met and the principals got slimed!! Let's do it again this year!
We have already hit the $5000 goal!!!
We want to let you know that on Friday, November 17, 2023, RHES students will be participating in the RHES Fall Fun Run!
If you have never heard of a Fun Run, that's okay! It is an entertaining and healthy way for kids and families to help raise money for the school and student activities, such as:
- Purchasing new furniture needed in the classrooms like teacher chairs and bookshelves
- School activities for kids and families
In past years, the RHES Fun Run has raised between $12,000-$20,000 for the school. This year, our goal is to raise at least $15,000. (Last year, we beat our goal and raised $20,000!)
All students can participate, BUT, they must be registered by a parent/guardian. To register your student, and begin requesting donations from family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, local businesses, etc., please:
- Go to mybooster.com and click "Sign Up". Then, follow the prompts to register your student(s)
- Share the student's fundraising page link with family, friends, etc. using the "Share" button
- Check your student's fundraising page frequently to track their progress
Donors will be able to make a flat donation in support of the student that is 100% tax deductible. If any donors are unable to make donations online, the student can collect cash or checks along with the donor name, address, and phone number. That money and information can be placed in an envelope labeled "For PTA for Fun Run" and taken to the front office. Checks should be made payable to "Rose Hill Elem PTA". These donations will be credited toward the student's fundraising total.
Class prizes will be awarded after the Fall Fun Run day:
- The class in each grade that raises the most money will win an EXTRA RECESS PARTY!
- The class that raises the most money overall will win an EXTRA RECESS PARTY plus PIZZA (provided by PTA)!
School-wide prizes will also be awarded after the Fall Fun Run day:
- If we raise $5,000, the Principal and Associate Principals will wear funny costumes. (We have already hit this goal! Woo Hoo!)
- If we raise $10,000, all students will get an ice cream treat!
- If we raise $15,000 or more, the Principal and Associate Principals will be "Ice Cream Sundaed" at a fun school assembly.
The day of the Fall Fun Run, students should wear sneakers, comfortable bottoms, and either their RHES spirit wear, or the school colors (red and blue).
If you have any questions, please send a message to: ptacommunicationsrosehill@gmail.com.
We thank you for your support of your student(s) and our school! Together, we can get to that $15,000 goal!
Rose Hill Teachers are always Learning
5th grade teachers, Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Perozze (not pictured, Mrs. Rieger) are working through an erosion experiment for an upcoming science unit.
Rose Hill teachers come together at least twice a week in their grade level teams to talk through the curriculum, look through data, and are always learning. What you see above is the 5th grade team going through the motions of the science experiment that the students are going to do on erosion. The purpose of them actually doing it is it allows the teachers to see where the challenges might be for the students, come up with high-order questions they might ask the students to engage their thinking, and simply to talk through the steps of the experiment to it is conducted correctly. This is time that is highly valuable and ensures that our teachers are always ready to put their best foot forward for the students!
Family members are invited to eat lunch with their student(s) on November 15th. Visitors should plan to bring their own lunch. Because of staffing and supply chain challenges, visitors will not have the option of purchasing a school lunch. Below is the lunch schedule for the grade levels. We look forward to having a lunch with our Rose Hill families!
11:00-11:30 - Grade 4
11:30-12:00 - Grade 5 & 6
12:00-12:30 - Kindergarten
12:30-1:00 - Grade 2
1:00-1:30 - Grade 1
