SCA is partnering with our school Kindness Ambassadors to celebrate World Kindness Week between November 13th-17th! Our next spirit day will take place on Wednesday, November 15th, where we encourage students and staff to wear shirts with positive messages. We can’t wait to support one another by spreading words of kindness and empathy!
Looking for a way to celebrate World Kindness Week? Help our community stay warm this winter! SCA will be collecting new or gently used winter wear (coats, hats, gloves, scarves) between November 13th-December 1st. Please drop off your donations at our warm tree located in the main hallway near the library overlook.
Nominations are now open for the FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards!
The deadline to submit a nomination is November 17th, 2023.
To submit a nomination for a Lees Corner Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please click the title of the award and complete the nomination form. You may nominate an employee in one or more categories.
All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. The nomination form has more information regarding the criteria for each of these awards and the eligibility requirements.
Please note that if your nominee is selected to represent Lees Corner ES, you will be asked to complete a much more involved 2-3 page nomination packet.
Outstanding Teacher – a teacher, counselor, or librarian with 3 or more years of experience
Outstanding New Teacher – a teacher, librarian, or counselor with less than 3 years of experience
Outstanding Principal – a building principal with 4 or more years of experience
Outstanding Leader – assistant principal, director of student activities, director of student services
Outstanding Operational Employee – administrative and office assistants, custodial staff, food service staff, instructional assistants, PHA (public health assistant), PHTA (public health training assistant), parent liaisons
Outstanding Professional Employee – SBTS (school-based technology specialist), TSSpec (technology support specialist), psychologist, social worker, resource teachers that serve in an administrative role

Teachers take attendance at 8:50 a.m. so your child should in their classroom and ready for school by that time.
If your child will be absent, late or leave early, please use our online attendance form found here or send a message to LeesCornerESAttendance@fcps.edu. Teachers are not always able to check email during the day and this attendance email is monitored by the office.
Automated phone calls and emails are sent out around 10:15 am to anyone whose child’s absence is unverified in the morning.
If we do not hear from you in response to the calls and emails sent out by the county, the absence becomes an unexcused absence.
Fall Picture Retakes will be held on Tuesday, November 14 from 8:30 am – 11:30 am.
Please plan for your child to have their picture taken if:
- they started at Lees Corner after September 27
- they were absent on September 27
- you were not pleased with the picture they took that day
Each family will get a proof from which to order. These will also be the yearbook pictures.

Elementary English Language Arts basal instructional resources may be accessed in person and online from November 15, 2023, until noon on December 15, 2023. Digital materials for public review and comment will be available on the Elementary Language Arts Basal Resource Review website. Those reviewing instructional materials may complete an electronic comment sheet that will be available on the website during the review period.

Materials may be reviewed at Pimmit Hills Center Monday - Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitors should enter through door #4 and check in at the main office or with the building coordinator on duty.
All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.
The Lees Corner Elementary School Harvest Lunch is happening on Thursday, November 16th, during your student's regular lunch time. If you plan to attend lunch with your child that day please pay in advance online at www.myschoolbucks.com.
On Wednesday, November 15th, the cafeteria will be serving chicken parmesan for students only.
