Fort Belvoir Primary School Weeks at a Glance 11/3/2023

Principal's Note

ort Belvoir Primary Families,

As we embrace the golden hues and the crisp air of November, I am reminded that this month is a time of gratitude and reflection. It’s a moment to come together and appreciate the opportunities that surround us, both big and small. I hope this message finds you well and in high spirits.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we are celebrating our veterans for their unwavering dedication and sacrifice to our great nation. Their service is a testament to the values we hold dear and a reminder of the importance of coming together as a school community. Please join us on Friday, November 10th as we honor and celebrate Veterans Day at Primary.

Additionally, we’re excited to host a Harvest Luncheon for friends and families to enjoy on Wednesday, November 15th. It’s an opportunity for us to gather, share stories, and savor the meal prepared by our amazing cafeteria staff. Your presence and support means the world to us.

The staff and I are genuinely thankful for the incredible community we have here at Fort Belvoir. It is your dedication, involvement, and love that make our school a special place for our children to learn and grow.

As we embark on this season of gratitude and togetherness, let’s remember the power of unity and the beauty of giving thanks. Our school is a shining example of what can be achieved when we all work together for the betterment of our children.

I am wishing you and your family a wonderful November filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments. Thank you for continuing to be a vital part of our school community!

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

We are asking every family for their support in completing the Federal Impact Aid form, it is a vital component in securing federal funding. These funds are only for students that have a military connection and directly benefit your child’s education.

The funding we receive from this program is instrumental in supporting various educational initiatives. We want to emphasize how this funding directly impacts your child’s education and the overall success of our school.

We understand that privacy might be a concern for some families. Please be assured that the information provided on the form will be kept confidential and used exclusively for securing Federal Impact Aid funding. Your information will not be shared with other parties.

We kindly request your prompt attention to this matter and appreciate your cooperation. Your participation is crucial to ensuring that our school can continue to provide high-quality education and additional opportunities for your child. A hard copy of the form has been placed in your child’s Thursday folder. Please fill it out and return it to your child’s teacher.

Fort Belvoir Elementary Schools Food Market

I would like to correctly state that the Capital Area Food Bank donated the food for our Food Market this past Friday. Members of the Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity, Inc. unloaded the trucks and set up the items. They have experience with Whitman Middle School’s market and we very much appreciate them. We could not have hosted the market without their support.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

The Impact Aid Program is a federal grant program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned and therefore tax-exempt property. Your support in identifying students with federal connections will ensure that FCPS can obtain its fair share of grant funds from this program.

Paper copies were sent home. Please be sure to complete and sign the survey and have your child return the original (fax or email copies may not be sent) to their teacher no later than Thursday, November 16th.

For questions regarding the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid, please call 703-329-7750 or email ImpactAid@fcps.edu or visit https://www.fcps.edu/impact.  Additional information about Impact Aid programs and grants is available on the U.S. Department of Education's website at DoED Impact Aid Programs.

Advanced Academic Programs

AAP

In an effort to provide local access to full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services, our school is in the process of starting a Local Full-Time Program. Full-Time AAP (level IV) services will be available at Fort Belvoir Upper Elementary School in grade 3 beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. Full-Time AAP services will be expanded to grades 4-6 over the subsequent three school years. By the 2027-2028 school year, full-time AAP services will be available at our school in grades 3-6.

The Local Full-Time Program will allow center eligible students to stay at their neighborhood school and receive full-time services and will provide increased opportunities for students throughout the school to access AAP curriculum and resources.

A family information meeting will be held at Fort Belvoir Upper Elementary School in the Cafeteria on Tuesday, November 14th at 5:30pm. During this meeting, we will discuss the process for becoming a Local Full-Time AAP site, describe what this means for our school, and answer any questions.

We hope that you will be able to join us!
