News from the Principal
We had such a fun week at Crestwood ES! Our PTA did a great job with the fall festival! Pictures coming soon! Our attendance celebration was a success! Ms. De La Cruz was such a trooper and let our owls tape her to the wall. Students are getting positive ofiereferrals for a job well done. They are also learning and engaging in conversations about the books they read.
Last week we said "Hasta Pronto" to Ms. Ferguson. Her tenure as interim assitant pricipal has come to an end but her impact will last a lifetime. We want to thank her for everything she has done for our students and teachers during this time.
This week we will be sending infomation about our Thanksgiving luncheon which will take place on November 15. We look forward to having our families join our students on this special day.
Dont forget that tomorrow Monday, November 6 and Tuesday, November 7 are student holidays. Kids do no need to report to school.

Tuvimos una semana muy divertida en Crestwood ES! ¡Nuestra PTA hizo un gran trabajo con el festival de otoño! ¡Fotos próximamente! ¡Nuestra celebración de asistencia fue un éxito! La Sra. De La Cruz fue un gran soldado y dejó que nuestros búhos la pegaran a la pared. Los estudiantes están recibiendo referencias positivas por un trabajo bien hecho. También están aprendiendo y participando en conversaciones sobre los libros que leen.
La semana pasada le dijimos "Hasta Pronto" a la Sra. Ferguson. Su mandato como pricipal asistente interina ha llegado a su fin, pero su impacto durará toda la vida. Queremos agradecerle todo lo que ha hecho por nuestros alumnos y profesores durante este tiempo.
Esta semana estaremos enviando información sobre nuestro almuerzo de Acción de Gracias que tendrá lugar el 15 de noviembre. Esperamos que nuestras familias se unan a nuestros estudiantes en este día especial.
No olviden que mañana lunes 6 y martes 7 de noviembre son vacaciones estudiantiles. Los niños no necesitan presentarse en la escuela.

News from the PTA
- Join us this Saturday, November 4th, at the school campus for the Crestwood Fall Festival. There will be food, games, activities, and representatives from our local organizations.
- If you would like to volunteer to assist with activities, please sign up here.
- We are also in need of volunteers to arrive before and after the event to assist with set-up/clean-up. Reach out to a PTA member at the event to volunteer.
- The PTA Election Day Bake Sale will be this Tuesday, November 7th near the school main entrance. This is one of our most important fundraisers of the year. If you would like to volunteer baked goods or for a shift at the bake sale table, please sign up below. It’s an all-day event and we could use your help.

Impact Aid
Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, we provided paper forms in Thursday folders on Thursday, Nov. 2nd. Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17th. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.
Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. SR&R Virtual Feedback Session
Provide Input on FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R)
Please join FCPS’ Chief Equity Office for a virtual meeting regarding the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Regulation. The event will be held on Thursday, November 9, from 6-7:30 p.m. You may register at this link.
Your feedback will help ensure that FCPS policies align with the school division’s mission and values. It will also help identify any specific considerations that need to be addressed for the 2024-25 school year.
Language interpretation will be available in Spanish, Korean, and Arabic. A Certified Deaf Interpreter will be available as well. Get information on the SR&R.

Strategic Plan
Successfully Completing Algebra 1 by Eighth Grade
Helping students to complete Algebra 1 by eighth grade is part of our Strategic Plan (Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence). Algebra Access Network Improvement Community (AANIC) is working to increase the diverse representation of students who take advanced math classes and succeed in them. This video shares more about the AANIC cohorts at Kilmer and Key middle schools and lets students explain why Algebra matters to them.
Passing Algebra 1 earlier allows for students to take more advanced classes like Dual Enrollment courses, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. These advanced courses help students succeed in college. A recent study from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) found that completing Algebra 1 by grade eight led to 30% more ninth graders and 16% more 11th graders taking advanced courses.
