Woodburn Families,

We want to take a moment to say thank you to our Veterans who have dedicated themselves to protecting our freedom. This morning we held a Veterans Day flag raising ceremony that was streamed from our flag pole during our morning news show to pay our respects to the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces. We are grateful for their sacrifices and their commitment to our country.

We are excited for the 2nd quarter and love the learning happening throughout the building each day.

Together We Grow,

Katy & Kelley

FLE  Parent Preview Night, Nov. 20, 6pm

Join us virtually on Monday, November 20th at 6:00pm for our FLE Parent Preview Night followed by an overview of 1-2-3 Magic. Families interested in learning more about Family Life Education may preview resources on our Schoology Parent Course. Parents must sign in using their ParentVUE SIS account.

1-2-3 Magic Overview, Nov. 20, 6:45pm

Following our FLE parent preview night, we will be sharing a little bit about 1-2-3 Magic and how it is being used in the classroom. 1-2-3 Magic is a strategy used to redirect and stop negative behavior through counting calm. It reduces the amount of language and time required to remind a student to R.O.A.R. Join us at 6:45 on November 20th to learn more!

A zoom link for this meeting will be shared prior to the meeting.

Window for Full-time AAP Referrals Closes on Dec.15, 2023

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs may submit the AAP Full-Time (Level IV) Referral Form to Amanda Manno (acmanno@fcps.edu) no later than December 15, 2023

A virtual information meeting will be held on Monday, November 27th at 6:00 PM. The Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, Amanda Manno, will provide information about the screening and identification for full-time (Level IV) AAP services. A link will be sent before the meeting.

The window for families to submit a referral for full-time AAP services is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Full-Time AAP services will be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for full-time AAP will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of six trained professionals from various schools and roles will review the portfolio materials to determine eligibility for full-time placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Amanda Manno (acmanno@fcps.edu).

Referrals for subject-specific and part-time AAP are screened at the local school. If you miss this deadline, your student can still be screened for subject-specific AAP or part-time AAP for the remainder of the year and submit a referral for full-time AAP next fall.

For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs website.

In case you missed it----

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, your school should be providing paper forms this week. Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For more information, watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. A Certified Deaf Interpreter will be available as well. Visit the SR&R webpage

National Family Engagement Month

This month reminds us that families are children's first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers. Strong family support is vital to student well-being and success.

FCPS has many resources designed to increase engagement and partnerships with families while fostering academic success and social-emotional growth.

Additionally, every school has a family liaison who welcomes and orients families and helps them understand the school's culture, policies, procedures, and practices. They can help connect families to resources in the community. Family liaisons might also assist a family in transitioning to a new school and encourage family-school partnerships to help ensure their student's success and healthy development.

If you have questions or would like more information, ask your school office to connect you with your family liaison or visit FCPS’ website for a list of region representatives
