One of only two Physical/Occupational Therapy Program in Fairfax County Public Schools, this course offers two levels of Physical/Occupational Therapy courses to students. The goal of the two-year class is to introduce students to the professions of Physical and Occupational Therapy (PT and OT), with medical terminology, basic human anatomy, and active hands-on clinical labs throughout the course year. The second year of the class is an intensive study of human structure and function, reinforced with hands-on activity labs and practical experience. Students in the second level recently spent time with professional physical therapists in a clinical observation.
Educate Fairfax is a nonprofit that works to make a positive difference in the lives of FCPS students and community presented an opportunity for teachers to apply for grants that support work-based learning initiatives. Chantilly Academy was awarded funding to support four different initiatives. We strive to provide opportunities for students to explore meaningful career pathways through project-based learning. This year, as made possible by Educate Fairfax, some of our new initiatives include: Engineering, Physical Therapy and the Community: A Service Learning Project, Salon start-up: Learning real-world skills in a classroom-based cosmetology salon, Purple Expresso Expansion, and CyberPatriot. The projects highlight valuable skills for students through school-based enterprise, research, prototyping, and cybersecurity.
