Student Council Elections for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer took place today. All students got a chance to cast their vote. Candidates created campaign posters, and some created videos as well. We are so proud of all of our candidates for taking initiative to be school leaders, and for all the hard work they put into their campaigns.
Later this year, students will have another leadership opportunity with our classroom representative election. Thank you to Ms. Heath for organizing our Student Council Association and supporting the candidates!

Family Liaison Corner
“At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents.”
— Jane D. Hull
Dear Families,
November is the Family Engagement Month for FCPS. Family engagement in schools contributes to positive student outcomes, including improved child and student achievement, decreased disciplinary issues, improved parent-teacher and teacher-student relationships, and improved school environment. Children whose families are engaged in their education are more likely to earn higher grades and score higher on tests, graduate from high school and college, and develop self-confidence and motivation in the classroom.
Engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus and moves them to more critical thinking. There are so many things you can do to engage with your student’s school. Let us name a few: Communicate often with your student teacher, get involved when the school offers opportunities as a volunteer, spend some time reading to your child every night, and come to school to have lunch with your student. They are always happy to see you around the school.

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey
FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, we provided paper forms earlier this week. Please be sure to return paper forms by Friday, November 17. The electronic form will continue to be available in SIS ParentVUE until January 2024.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important, because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
Please watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page for more information.
Need to Register for ParentVUE?
Learn how to activate your SISParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.
Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and enter Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).
FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards
Nominations are now open for the FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards! Every year, Fairfax County Public Schools celebrates the efforts and accomplishments of exceptional school-based and non-school-based employees from throughout the district. Submit a nomination for a Cameron Elementary Outstanding Employee!
- Outstanding Teacher
- Outstanding New Teacher
- Outstanding Principal
- Outstanding School Leader

Please note that if your nominee is awarded school winner in that category, and they move on for pyramid consideration, you will be asked to complete a Nominator’s Form, in addition to helping to arrange for two other individuals to complete Letters of Support.
The deadline to submit nominations is Monday November 6, 2023.

Successfully Completing Algebra 1 by Eighth Grade
Helping students to complete Algebra 1 by eighth grade is part of our Strategic Plan (Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence). Algebra Access Network Improvement Community (AANIC) is working to increase the diverse representation of students who take advanced math classes and succeed in them. This video shares more about the AANIC cohorts at Kilmer and Key middle schools and lets students explain why Algebra matters to them.
Passing Algebra 1 earlier allows for students to take more advanced classes like Dual Enrollment courses, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. These advanced courses help students succeed in college. A recent study from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) found that completing Algebra 1 by grade eight led to 30% more ninth graders and 16% more 11th graders taking advanced courses.
