Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Briggs

FallFestival

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We had another fun-filled week of learning and celebrating at SHES! Our Fall Festival was full of creative costumes, smiling faces, and moments of JOY! Our fabulous musicians in Chorus, Band, & Strings performed 'Count Trickala' for our K-3 panthers. It was a fun way to celebrate the season through music.

Next week, our students have off on Monday & Tuesday. These days are designated workdays for our staff. Please make sure you have scheduled a conference with your child's teacher.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

FCPS School Year Calendar for 2023-24

Arrival & Dismissal Safety

Safety is our top priority and we need your help!

There have been several near misses on the roads around Spring Hill recently…On Lewinsville Road, by school, and in the neighborhoods surrounding Spring Hill (particularly in the Hamlet by the school walking path on Birnham Wood Drive), help us model safe driving behavior by adhering to the following safe driving tips:

(1)   SLOW DOWN (school zone speed limit is 25 mph) – observe and follow all speed limits and slow down when approaching school zones because children can unexpectedly dart across the road or into crosswalks

(2)   CROSSWALKS – always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and wait for them to completely cross the road before moving, AND ALWAYS keep an eye out for children linger in or near crosswalks and intersections

(3)   STAY FOCUSED AND ALERT – keep your eyes on the road and eliminate any distraction that diverts your attention (i.e. keep your phone out of reach, etc.) so that you are prepared to react quickly to any unexpected situations

(4)   SCHOOL BUSES – ALWAYS stop when a school bus is loading and unloading (for more information on the laws and guidelines, click here[hyperlink to NHTSA Web page - https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/school-bus-safety)

(5)   COMMUNICATION – use proper signaling and active communication with other drivers and pedestrians

(6)  KISS & RIDE- Your child should be seated on the passenger side of the car as they will exit from the right side only. Parents must stay in their vehicles at all times. Kiss & Ride cars will exit right onto Lewinsville Road. Please remember to not pass cars in the Kiss & Ride lane. In order to keep the traffic flow moving, have your child exit your car wherever your car is stopped (usually we dismiss 4-5 cars at a time) and directed by SHES staff.

The Hamlet is NOT a Kiss & Ride drop off point.

Together, let us create a community focused on safe driving around Spring Hill. Please join us and be a safe driving role model!

Survey for Federal Impact Aid

The Impact Aid Program is a federal grant program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned and therefore tax-exempt property. Your support in identifying students with federal connections will ensure that FCPS can obtain its fair share of grant funds from this program.

The surveys will be available online this year. Please log into ParentVue from October 16 to October 30.  Once logged in, please select the “Online Packets” tab at the top, then select “Federal Impact Aid Survey” from the drop down menu.

Any surveys not completed by October 31 will be sent home in Friday Folders on November 3. Please be sure to complete and sign the survey and have your child return the original (fax or email copies may not be sent) to their teacher no later than Thursday, November 16th.

For questions regarding the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid, please call 703-329-7750 or email ImpactAid@fcps.edu or visit this website.  Additional information about Impact Aid programs and grants is available on the U.S. Department of Education's website at DoED Impact Aid Programs.
