Ms. Mirnaly Vega

Dear Sleepy Hollow Families,

As we end the month of October, I want to share with each of you my gratitude and appreciation for a month full of exciting events. Our kindergarteners relished in the pumpkin patch through playful activities and practicing counting  the many pumpkin seeds collected. We celebrated Book Character Day and our staff and students enjoyed sharing their favorite book characters from Harry Potter, Cat in the Hat, Ms. Frizzle, and Charlotte. The school represented all genres on this day. Lastly, a great thank you to the partnership of the PTA in creating an amazing family night of Trunk or Treat. We have definitely created a new tradition at SHES. Thank you families, staff, community members in always supporting Sleepy Hollow.

Warmest regards,

Mirnaly Vega and Tim Scesney

Principal and Assistant Principal

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

The Impact Aid Program is a federal grant program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned and therefore tax-exempt property. Your support in identifying students with federal connections will ensure that FCPS can obtain its fair share of grant funds from this program.

The surveys will be available online this year. Please log into ParentVue from October 16 to October 30.  Once logged in, please select the “Online Packets” tab at the top, then select “Federal Impact Aid Survey” from the drop down menu.

Any surveys not completed by October 31 will be sent home in Friday Folders on November 3. Please be sure to complete and sign the survey and have your child return the original (fax or email copies may not be sent) to their teacher no later than Thursday, November 16th.

For questions regarding the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid, please call 703-329-7750 or email ImpactAid@fcps.edu or visit https://www.fcps.edu/impact.  Additional information about Impact Aid programs and grants is available on the U.S. Department of Education's website at DoED Impact Aid Programs

🍬 Tips to Help Keep Children Safe

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) reminds parents and caregivers that it’s important to talk to your children about safety topics including:

  • What parents should know about their children’s plans.
  • Having a meeting spot in case of getting separated.
  • Establishing safe areas.
  • What to do if you are followed.

Visit the FCPD website for more details on how to discuss safety topics.

🏗️ FCPS Buildings Benefit All Community Members

In addition to our students and teachers, we estimate millions of visits by students and community members to Fairfax County public schools. Most of the public meeting and recreational facilities available in the county are FCPS facilities. FCPS works with the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and with the Fairfax County Park Authority to ensure that school facilities and athletic fields are available to the public after school hours.

The 2023 Bond Referendum will be on the ballot in November. Vote on Tuesday, November 7. Learn more about registering to vote.
