Character Day - October 31

character day graphic

Help Halley ES celebrate our love for literacy on Tuesday, October 31st!  Students are invited to dress up as their favorite book character!  We encourage student to have their book with them – but it’s not required.

Please note that students will not be allowed to wear costume masks, costume face coverings, or caps in school.  In addition, we encourage students to leave props for their costumes at home (Please do not send any object to school that has sharp edges or resembles a weapon - this becomes an SR&R issue).

We look forward to seeing everyone's school spirit on Halloween day!

Halley ES

Friday, November 10th

10:00am

The staff and students at Halley will host our Veterans Day program on Friday, November 10th at 10:00am.  Parents are invited to attend, and our active-duty military personnel are free to wear their uniform.  Please join us!

Please send photos of your Veteran!

As part of our Veterans' Day celebration, we would like to feature photographs of the active-duty and veteran members of the military in our school community. Please send a photo of your military family member(s) and include the individuals name, rank, and branch of service by Friday, November 4th.

Please use this LINK to upload your picture by November 7th. As a result of the volume of pictures please only upload one photo of the service member.

You can also send a hard-copy photo into school with your child (please be sure to label it with your child’s name and teacher’s name if you would like it returned) or e-mail a digital copy to Paula Johnson-Tyler at pajohnsontyl@fcps.edu.

Thank you for your service!

thanksgiving luncheon

Halley ES is excited to bring back Thanksgiving Lunch on Friday, November 10th!  Parents and caregivers are invited to join their student(s) for a traditional Thanksgiving lunch right here at school.  Please enter Door 1 and have your ID ready.  We will get you singed in and off to eat lunch with your student.

If you would like to purchase Thanksgiving lunch, please make sure you have sufficient funds in your student’s MySchoolBucks account.  The student price for lunch is $3.25 and the adult price is $4.75.

If you need to create a MySchoolBucks account, please see the instructions below:

  1. Go to www.MySchoolBucks.com  or, to the MySchoolBucks link located on the Laurel Ridge homepage to establish an account.
  2. Add your students using the name of the school they are attending, and either their student ID or birthdate.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email that your account has been established.

Vision and Hearing Screening

Vision and Hearing Screenings will be held for all Kindergarten and 3rd Grade students on Tuesday, October 31st.

The purpose of the screenings is to identify students who need further evaluation due to difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones. If your child wears eyeglasses, please be sure that glasses are at school on their screening day.

Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning.

If you have any questions, please contact the School Health Aide, Taisha Thompson, at 703-551-5710 or Taisha.Israel@fairfaxcounty.gov
