Dear Oak Hill Family,
It's been another great week in the Wolf Pack!
We are looking forward to the end of the 1st Quarter, which comes with an opportunity to celebrate how we have grown in our Portrait of a Graduate attributes. Students will converse with students from a buddy class about their chosen attribute, the skill they are looking to develop, evidence of their work in this area, and why growth in this area is important. At the end of this week, be sure to ask your student how their POG Buddy Conversation went.
It's a busy time of year. Friday is an early dismissal (1:30 pm) and Monday and Tuesday are student holidays. Mrs. Lahr, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will be conducting a virtual presentation on Monday, November 6th at 6:00 to discuss the Level IV screening process (see below for details!). On Friday, Nov. 10th, we will be honoring our Veterans with a special breakfast and an opportunity to learn about their service.
Additionally, the deadline to nominate an Oak Hill Staff Member as an Outstanding Employee is coming up soon! Please see more details later in this message and fill out this Google form to highlight a staff member who has demonstrated excellence!

Halloween Candy Wrappers
Did you enjoy some candy this Halloween? Don't let your trash go to waste! Rubicon's Trash or Treasure program is recycling empty candy wrappers and you can drop yours off in the box in the lobby! Collection will take place until November 8. For more information about the program, contact Mrs. O'Malley at jmomalley@fcps.edu.
1. Photo IDs
All visitors must have their photo ID when entering the building. This is for the safety of all students. We appreciate your cooperation.
2. Kiss and Ride
As the weather turns colder and we have more families choosing to drive their children to school, please remember to model safe driving for your children. Our first priority is helping all of our children arrive at school safely. For many, that starts with their walk to school in the morning. We have noticed an increase in unsafe driving, putting our parents, children and staff at risk. All families choosing to drive to school must adhere to the following:
-
Drivers, follow all traffic laws and drive slowly when approaching intersections and crosswalks. Please no U-Turns in the middle of Kinross Circle.
-
Leave earlier, even 5 minutes will help. More cars means it will take more time to get everyone through Kiss and Ride.
Our children are our first priority. Help us keep everyone safe by leaving extra time, driving slowly and practicing patience. Our teachers and crossing guards will direct traffic to the best of their ability, and they rely on partnership with drivers to keep everyone safe.
Students from Oak Hill and other elementary schools in the pyramid participated in choral activities at Chantilly HS.
Mrs. Lahr, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will be conducting another virtual presentation on Monday, November 6th at 6:00 to discuss the Level IV screening process.

Ruby Bridges is an icon who believes the most important thing is uniting students. Because of this, we are encouraging students to walk to school. Please join us in honoring Ruby’s legacy by walking to school, as a community, one step at a time.

... Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native Americans. It is also a time to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges they have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.
...National Family Engagement Month
National Family Engagement Month reminds us that families are children's first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers. More than 35 years of research shows that the most effective way to increase student achievement is for families to be actively involved in the education of their child. Strong parental and family support is vital to the well-being and success of students. FCPS has many resources for families designed to increase engagement and partnerships with families while fostering academic success and social-emotional growth.
The national standards for family-school partnerships include welcoming all families, communicating effectively, supporting student success, speaking up for every child, sharing power, and collaborating with the community.
The following resources are available to all FCPS families. Visit the links below to learn more about workshops and classes for families, digital and printable resources for early childhood, mental health, military families, special education, multilingual and wellness topics.
