Notes from the Administration

Dear CWES Families,

If you have been up to school this week you may have noticed a new garden around back near the fields. Our Get2Green team led by Ms. Adams, Ms. Saludo, and Ms. Smith had CWES approved for a watershed garden though the R3 (Revitalize, Restore, Replant) initiative. Native plants were delivered this week, and our students helped to plant and mulch the garden for two full days. This is going to be another great area for outdoor learning as well as help our local watershed. Next time you are at school be sure to check it out!

Celebrating our nation's veterans is a time-honored tradition at CWES and we are beginning to plan this year’s events. We will be hosting a breakfast on November 10, 2023 from 8:30-9:10 in the cafeteria. We invite all our military families to attend. Please RSVP using this form no later than November 3rd.  Each year we also invite service members to speak to our students about their experiences, and this year we will carry on the tradition later in the year during Month of the Military Child in April.

Next week SCA has planned a fun spirit week to celebrate the end of first quarter (Flyer below). Please make sure costumes for Book Character Day are school appropriate. No full face masks, weapons or weapon look-a-likes.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Leslie Malkowski, Mindy Milliron, and Scott Reeder

🍬 Tips to Help Keep Children Safe

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) reminds parents and caregivers that it’s important to talk to your children about safety topics including:

  • What parents should know about their children’s plans.
  • Having a meeting spot in case of getting separated.
  • Establishing safe areas.
  • What to do if you are followed.

Visit the FCPD website for more details on how to discuss safety topics.

FCPS Cares

FCPS Cares

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Canterbury Woods ES.
