Hello Hunt Valley Families,
It is hard to believe that October is almost over! We have one week left of the first quarter and then our students will have a four-day weekend while teachers work on progress reports, finish parent-teacher conferences and engage in professional development to plan for the upcoming quarter.
Tonight, our PTA is hosting Trunk or Treat at Hunt Valley Pool. Based on the sign-up, about half of our student population will be attending this event. We ask that everyone use the crosswalk to if crossing the street to the pool so that everyone stays safe. The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) reminds parents and caregivers that it is important to talk to your children about safety topics including:
- What parents should know about their children’s plans.
- Having a meeting spot in case of getting separated.
- Establishing safe areas.
- What to do if you are followed.
Visit the FCPD website for more details on how to discuss safety topics.
We hope that everyone enjoys the warmer weather this weekend!
Take care,
Keieownna Hightower, Principal
Chrissy Gibbs, Assistant Principal
Federal Impact Aid Forms Available in SIS
Federal Impact Aid Forms are available now and can be completed online in SIS ParentVue.
FCPS uses the Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources. The survey will be available to FCPS families online through ParentVue for the next two weeks. After that, families who have not completed the survey will have a printed copy sent home with each child. Impact Aid programs and grants are designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget and are critical to ensuring that all children in FCPS receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.
Step 1: Log in to SIS ParentVue via the WEB browser, NOT the app
Step 2: Select the 'Online Packets' tab
Step 3: In the dropdown menu, select the '2023-2024 Federal Impact Aid Survey'
Step 4: Click the 'Begin Registration' button
You can access the impact aid form here: https://www.fcps.edu/impact
Please complete the form online before Monday, October 30th. All students whose forms are not completed online by the 30th will receive a paper copy to be completed at home and returned.

FCPS Buildings Benefit All Community Members
In addition to our students and teachers, we estimate millions of visits by students and community members to Fairfax County public schools. Most of the public meeting and recreational facilities available in the county are FCPS facilities. FCPS works with the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services and with the Fairfax County Park Authority to ensure that school facilities and athletic fields are available to the public after school hours.
The 2023 Bond Referendum will be on the ballot in November. Vote on Tuesday, November 7. Learn more about registering to vote.
School Lunch Week
New School Lunch Menu Options
FCPS' Food and Nutrition Services team will be rolling out improvements to the menu that better reflect the diversity of our student body and focus on fresh, healthy food. Learn about FCPS’ new menu options.
Extended Hours at the Health Department
The Fairfax County Health Department has introduced extended hours next week and in November at various clinics, specifically tailored for school-age children to catch up on their essential, school-required immunizations. They offer immunizations to all Fairfax County students as well those who are behind on their scheduled immunizations, need a booster, and to people who are new to country.
For your clinic appointment, bring the following items with you:
Parents who are unable to bring their child to an immunization clinic during the work day may send their child with a responsible adult who is over the age of 18 and can give permission for the vaccination on behalf of the parent.
Appointments are available during regular clinic hours. Extended hours are now also being offered for school-age children to catch up on their school-required vaccines. Please call ahead, appointments are required. Schedule your appointment by calling 703-246-7100.
