Would you like to nominate a Bailey’s Upper Staff Member for an FCPS Outstanding Employee Award?
To submit a nomination for a Bailey’s Upper Elementary School Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please complete the nomination through this Google form link. You may nominate one employee at BUpper, or multiple employees (one individual may only nominate one employee per category.)
All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in the criteria for that category. The Google form link has more information regarding the criteria for each of these awards and the eligibility requirements are below.
Outstanding Teacher Eligibility: Has at least three years of experience as a teacher (in any school/school district); librarians are included in this category
Outstanding New Teacher Eligibility: Has up to three years of experience as a teacher (in any school/school district); librarians are included in this category
Outstanding Principal Eligibility: Has at least three years of experience as a building principal (in any school/school district)
Outstanding New Principal Eligibility: Has up to three years of experience as a building principal (in any school/school district)
Outstanding Leader Eligibility: At least one year of experience in their current position as a Schedule-C or School-Based Administrator scale employee (that is not the building principal): Common positions in this category: Assistant and Associate Principals, Director of Student Activities, Director of Student Services
Outstanding Professional Employee Eligibility: At least one year experience in current position as a Schedule-B employee or other non-instructional employee in a school that supports school leadership
Common positions in this category: School-Based Technology Specialist, Technology Support Specialist, Assessment Coach, Career Center Specialist, Instructional Coach, Psychologist, Social Worker, School Counselor, Safety and Security Specialist, Resource Teachers that serve in an administrative role in a school
Outstanding Operational Employee Eligibility: At least one year of experience in current position as Schedule-A or Classroom Instructional Support Scale employee
Common positions in this category: Administrative and Office Staff, Safety and Security Assistant, Custodial Staff, Food Service Staff, IA, PHA, PHTA, All Parent Liaisons (regardless of how they are paid)
The deadline to submit a nomination is November 6.

Justice Girls Lacrosse is hosting a Fall Clinic on November 13, 14, 15 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Justice High School! This clinic is open to anyone, but we are targeting girls in grades 5th – 8th in the Justice Pyramid. No experience or equipment is required. The cost is $52 and includes a t-shirt! Lacrosse is a growing sport in the country and will be a part of the 2028 Summer Olympics! We are hoping to grow the sport in our community and give girls the opportunity to try a new sport and express themselves in a new way! In the past five years, our Varsity team has made history and we are hoping to continue the success each year! We most recently finished our season as National District Runner-Ups and Occoquan Region Semi-Finalists and with the National District Player and Coach of the Year!

Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum is taught in grades K-12 and lessons include a variety of age-appropriate topics that promote parent involvement, for sterling positive self-concepts, and priveds coping mechanisms for dealing with pressure and stresses related to the student’s developmental stages and abilities.This year at Bailey’s Upper, FLE will take place during the week of December 11-15, 2023.

Parents are invited to attend the FLE Parent Preview on November 15, 2023 from 9:00-10:00 AM at Bailey's Upper. If you are unable to make it at this time and would like more information, please reach out to Ms. Kargbo at ckargbo@fcps.edu. If you would like to opt your student out of FLE, the forms can be found in the link below and paper copies were sent home at the beginning of the year.

CogAt testing resumed on Oct. 26th and should be completed before the window ends. The NNAT testing window is set to open on November 28th and will window close on December 1st. As with any assessment, please bear in mind that the CogAT and NNAT is a single data point used within the holistic advanced academics screening process. No data points in the screening portfolio, including an ability test score, has a minimum required score or a weighted consideration in matching students to available AAP services.

Parents are invited to join their student(s) for a special lunch at school on an assigned day! This is a great opportunity for parents to come in for lunch with their child. Please see the full schedule below to view when your child’s class is scheduled for a lunch visit.
We encourage parents to eat the same lunch as their child either packed or purchased. On the day of your child’s lunch, please arrive 5-10 minutes early so you can sign-in at the office. All lunches will be hosted in room 249. If you choose to buy lunch from the cafeteria, adult pricing is $4.75 and may be paid in cash. Click here for more information on purchasing lunch.
