Puma families,
As we get ready to roll into November we would like to share that November is National Family Engagement Month. This reminds us that families are children's first and most important teachers, advocates, and nurturers. Over 35 years of research shows that the most effective way to increase student achievement is for families to be actively involved in their children's education. We encourage all families to try some new ways to engage with school and one another by considering THIS CALENDAR of ideas to try throughout November. We hope you have fun trying some new things as a family!
Best,
Jamie Luerssen
Principal
As a reminder, Friday, November 3, is the last day of the first quarter, and a two-hour early release for students. Also, schools are closed for students on Monday, November 6, for a school planning day. See the complete school year calendar.
The Fairfax Board of Elections has requested that schools be closed on Tuesday, March 5, to accommodate the administration of the 2024 presidential primary election.
March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day. Central offices and school offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as it does on other professional work days.

The Impact Aid Program is a federal grant program designed to directly compensate local school districts that have been financially impacted by federal activities. The program's mission is to reimburse local school districts for local revenues lost due to the presence of federally owned and therefore tax-exempt property. Your support in identifying students with federal connections will ensure that FCPS can obtain its fair share of grant funds from this program.
The surveys will be available online this year. Please log into ParentVue from today to October 30. Once logged in, please select the “Online Packets” tab at the top, then select “Federal Impact Aid Survey” from the drop-down menu.
Any surveys not completed by October 30 will be sent home in Tuesday Folders on October 31st. Please be sure to complete and sign the survey and have your child return the original (fax or email copies may not be sent) to their teacher no later than Thursday, November 16th.

Thank you to all who submitted pumpkins for our library pumpkin character contest this year. Your hard work was evident, and your creativity was astounding! This contest is a great opportunity to apply the comprehension skills that students learn in their language arts classes daily.
