Principal's Message

10-26

Dear Shrevewood Families,

This has been another wonderful week filled with engaging lessons within each classroom, fun field trips, and the excitement of possibly dying my hair blue for our students. Our Thanksgiving Day lunch is back by popular demand. We are extremely excited to welcome our families to eat lunch with their child on November 15.  If you have not done so already, please RSVP for our Thanksgiving Day lunch. The details to the event are below.

Book Character Day is coming up next week.  Students can come to school dressed as their favorite book character on October 31.  This is always such a fun day for our staff and students. They get to enjoy fun activities in their classrooms and enjoy the staff dressing up as well. We will send out some pictures next week!

Dia de los Muertos is an opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones. Next Wednesday, November 1, and Thursday, November 2, are observance days in the FCPS calendar this year. Floris hopes everyone who celebrates finds peace and happiness.

Next Friday, November 3, is the last day of the first quarter and a two-hour early release for all FCPS students. Shrevewood dismissal is at 2:05 p.m. that day.

Have a wonderful warm weekend!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal

🤒 When a Student Should Stay Home From School

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your student succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your student stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when you should keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, please notify his/her teacher, so assistance can be provided if needed. Please contact us as soon as you know your child will be absent.

Read more about how families can help form good attendance habits.

Want to help spruce up where your student plays outside every day?

We are excited to be ready to paint the Blacktop near the playground with some new and exciting games and activities for all kids to enjoy! We have the stencils and paint---now we need YOU! Put on your painting clothes and come over to spend a couple hours painting with us on November 6 or 7. Middle and High school volunteers are welcome but we ask that they be accompanied by a parent (1 adult for no more than 3 volunteers) to help guide their work.

Head to this Sign Up Genius and spread the word! Please note that we will communicate any weather related challenges via email to any volunteers registered via the Sign Up Genius.

p2

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others. Everything that you say and do can affect others -- and your relationships with them.

Everything we do, say, text, tweet, snap, or post can positively or negatively impact other people. Our words and our actions are our choices to make, but they can have ripple effects long after we make them. Words and actions have the power to lift others up or tear them down, but our words and actions also impact ourselves. When a group is comprised of individuals who are thoughtful about their words and actions -- individuals who show respect and consideration for the people around them -- we’re likely to have a happier and healthier culture.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
