MHM

Dear Bailey’s ES Families,

We hope this newsletter finds you well as we come to the end of another week of learning at Bailey’s.  This week we celebrated Digital Citizenship Week.  Each day this week emphasized the importance of being a good digital citizen. It was also wonderful to see students engaged in each of the spirit days!  One of our favorite spirit days was Wednesday!  We loved seeing our students dressed in their very best for picture day.  Thank you to the PTA for organizing picture day for us.  We can’t wait to see everyone’s school pictures!

Throughout the week our students applied their understanding of systems and change in Creative Movement and during their visits to the Science Lab.  These overarching themes help students connect their understanding of a variety of content area subjects.

Next week will be a busy week at Bailey’s! We will sing with our kindergarten students and their families during the Kindergarten Singing Games on Tuesday, discuss the Advanced Academics Program on Wednesday, and welcome everyone for Trunk or Treat on Thursday.  We look forward to seeing you at these events!

We hope you have a great weekend!  As always, thank you for your continued support of our school.  We truly value your partnership!

Satonya Dews, Principal

Jillian Bell, Assistant Principal

Tracey Brown Rice, Assistant Principal

CogAT Testing Updates

Second grade families, the CogAT platform is up and running.  Testing will resume starting Monday, October 23rd.  Your child's teacher will communicate which dates they will be testing.  We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Advanced Academics Parent Information Sessions – October 25th

Join us on October 25th for a virtual parent information session about the Advanced Academics Program.  Ms. Reilly McDonald, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), will lead two virtual sessions on the 25th and provide information about the Advanced Academics Program.  Parents can join us from 11:15 – 12:15 or from 5:30 – 6:30. Links to the sessions will be shared next week.  We look forward to seeing you then!

Join Us for Global Community Night 2023 on Thursday, November 9th!

Get ready for our very first Global Community Night – on Thursday, November 9thThis is the night Bailey’s families come together from around the world to celebrate our rich cultural diversity.  We are hoping YOU will participate and share your traditions and cultures with us.

This night will be full of pride, learning, and of course, tasty treats, exciting entertainment, and traditional clothes. Participation forms with more details were included in this week’s Thursday folder.

In this week’s folder you’ll also find our Paper Doll project. All students are encouraged to create a doll that reflects their cultural heritage. The dolls will be used as decorations at Global Community Night.

Remember: You don’t need to be from a foreign country or have a multicultural background to participate in this event. ALL Bailey’s families are encouraged to create a display, perform,  and/or share a traditional treat.  We hope to see you there!

School Calendar Update

The Fairfax Board of Elections has requested that schools be closed on Tuesday, March 5, to accommodate the administration of the 2024 presidential primary election.

March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day for staff. Central offices and school offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as it does on other professional work days.

Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When scheduling trips or family events, try to use weekends and school holidays, and refer to the FCPS Calendar when planning. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence to their school. Most schools have links to their attendance email or notification systems on their homepages. If you are unsure how to report an absence, please call your school’s front office.

Watch this video with tips on understanding our school calendar and visit our Attendance webpage for additional information. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
