Good Afternoon, Braddock Family!
Hope this email finds you well. The purpose of my email is express my excitement for the upcoming College and Career Week at Braddock Elementary School. We are thrilled to announce this inspiring event aligns perfectly with Dr. Michelle Reid's Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent's Strategic Plan.
The purpose of College and Career Week is to foster a sense of exploration, curiosity, and preparedness among our students as they embark upon their educational journey. By connecting this event to Dr. Michelle Reid's vision, we are ensuring that our students are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to flourish in an ever-changing world.
Dr. Michelle Reid's Strategic Plan emphasizes the importance of preparing students for the world beyond the classroom. We believe that College and Career Week is a powerful way to put this plan into action. By introducing our students to various college and career opportunities, we aim to inspire them, broaden their horizons, and ignite their passion for lifelong learning.
During College and Career Week (see schedule below), our Braddock ES students will experience a series of engaging activities and informative sessions that will enable our students to:
-
Explore Different Pathways: We will provide students with opportunities to learn about various colleges, career paths, and interact with adults in a variety of fields. Through interactive presentations and discussions, our students will gain insights into diverse fields and discover their own interests and talents.
-
Connect with Professionals: We have invited professionals from different industries to share their experiences, expertise, and career journeys with our students. By interacting with these individuals, our students can gain valuable insights, ask questions, and develop a clearer understanding of what lies ahead.
-
Promote Higher Education: College readiness is a cornerstone of Dr. Michelle Reid's Strategic Plan. During this week, we will highlight the importance of higher education and empower our students to envision themselves as future college students. We will provide resources and guidance to help them navigate the college application process and understand the benefits of pursuing further education.
-
Cultivate Essential Skills: Alongside academic knowledge, we will emphasize the development of essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. These skills are vital in preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in their future careers.
This week of events can happen at Braddock ES because we have two dedicated staff members (Sherry Holland Senter, Grade 5 Teacher & Joyce Matthews, XSTREAM Program Coordinator & Community Outreach Team Member) who took my idea and simply made it their own.
Thank you, Sherry and Joyce for all that you have done to support our school—making meaningful experiences for our students.
If you should have any questions, please see an administrator.
As always, wishing you well--- continue to be safe and stay healthy.
